Not just the building dept. most of the agencies in JC are looking for a payoff, I remember a few years ago the fire inspectors tried to shake down our condo by scheduling fire alarm testing for our building at 6 am Sunday morning then not showing up and threatening to impose fines because the test didn't take place.

Komegashi II, get a table next to the windows in the back, at sunset the views of the city and the harbor with the passing boats is very romantic.

There's always someone going though the bins, everyone needs a new wardrobe .

Those bins in the SR parking lot are a for profit private company they sell the clothes.
I use the Red Cross bins next to the firehouse on Marin.

JC_Man -- Why in the world would you think I haven't read all the posts in the thread?

If you read closely -- and I suggest you haven't -- there are a number of accusations coming from people who don't actually live at 140 Bay or have anything to do with the building.

Why would I necessarily trust denizens of a message board over a real estate agent? Why would I trust either? Isn't it wise to try to seek out more information?

Thanks.

a-and-e you should go directly to the unit owners and the board for clarification, a message board info is hearsay and the RE agent has his own interests (his commission). If the building owners and board don't give you clear and concise answers then this is the red flag to run away.

My condo requires 70% of the floors to be covered with carpeting, makes it quieter.
Check and see if this is part of the house rules.

Newport Swim & Fitness has a day rate for non-members, there is a sauna and steamroom.

The maintenance is low $190 a month, but that adds up. $1520 a month for 8 units - $18,240 a year. Where does all that money go? I've never owed a condo and don't know. I'm sure there are lots of dumb little things I am unaware of.

Maintenance and reserves seem very low if a major system fails (roof, boiler, hot water etc) you could be hit with a very high special assessment.

Re: Anyone getting "routine 3 year" building inspections by city?

You're in Jersey City, everyone is looking for some extra "income". I remember when the fire inspectors wanted to test our building fire alarm on Sunday at 6 am, what city agency works at 6 am on Sunday? They would also schedule inspections then cancel them and blame the building for not showing up at the appointed time threatening us with fines. We never succumbed to their tactics or paid any extra income to stop the harrasment.

I've used Tune & Tire on Communipaw, they have been honest and fair. If you are getting an oil change and want the on-board computer reset you may have to go back to the dealer, not many repair shops have the reset equipment to reset the on-board computer.

Basil grows like weeds it grows fast and is hearty give it plenty of water and place it in a sunny spot.

I drive up to Englewood Cliffs every day for work passing through Ft Lee, the best way is to drive up along the river, a 35 min trip, avoid any major road that feeds into the GWB or the Lincoln tunnel you'll be stuck in traffic.

I agree, I think that people would support a business that is unique and affordable. Restaurants probably have the best chance of survival because there is not much competition in the HP area, but other businesses could thrive if they hit the right cord and price point. I think the biggest problem is that what we have right now isn't that great. If we had a few really good restaurants to choose from nobody would be complaining. Another major problem is that there is a major lack of retail space. We can argue about whether there should be more retail in HP until we are blue in the face but the fact of the matter is there is nowhere to put said retail. If Hamilton Inn ever returns and the bar formally known as Beret's Simple or Simple Beret's opens up again with food that is better than before (shouldn't be hard, their food was terrible) things won't be so bad. As is we have one or two bars to choose from, a sandwich shop and a few delis here and there. Adding those two back in the mix would greatly add to our neighborhood. Hopefully the shops at Hamilton Square will open up and really give us some options.

A problem for all business in JC is that there is no foot traffic during the day, business can't survive without it, even in NYC neighborhoods if there was very little to no foot traffic during the day a business won't survive.
