It is clear. You just don't know the law.

As jklm posted on this thread, and I posted on another thread, parking is prohibited

? Within 25 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, or side line of a street
? Within 50 feet of a stop sign

where do you start measuring the 25 feet? is the measurement supposed to be from the 'top' of the crosswalk line closest to the curb? from the middle of the crosswalk? from the bottom of the 'second' crosswalk line?

"within 25 feet of a crosswalk" is not a model of clarity.

the one yesterday lasted about 10 minutes before a host of police cars came to the corner of jersey/montgomery and broke up whatever was happening.

i was in the dog run at the time, and heard the shouting/commotion--it was quite loud--and then saw the 'kids' running all over the place (and carrying pieces of wood), but couldn't see the 'fight' b/c of the trees/bushes. reportedly, some of the 'kids' were, in addition to fighting one another, throwing rocks at cars.

today it happened again. only this time there was at least one pretty freaked out mom with her baby in a stroller near the band stand, almost huddling as 'kids' tore through the park (again with pieces of wood--where do they get them?) upon the cops arrival. wtf.

Bleeding man staggers into Jersey City firehouse
by Charles Hack/The Jersey Journal
Sunday August 30, 2009, 7:10 PM

Stabbed and bleeding from the back, and 18-year-old man staggered into a Jersey City firehouse Saturday evening, officials said.

Firefighters at Engine Company 22 at 468 Ocean Ave. quickly performed first aid to stop the bleeding called police and EMS to take the man to the Jersey City Medical Center, said Fire Director Armando Roman.

A lady told police the victim had intervened on her behalf after she got into an argument with a man on Ocean Avenue between Stegman Street and Wegman Parkway at around 7:30 p.m., according to police reports.

She saw the man she had been arguing with stab with the victim in his back, reports said.
The victim sustained a stab wound two inches long on the lower left side of his back, reports said.

"This young man had the presence of mind to seek refuge immediately and help at the fire house," Roman said. "It was a very smart thing to do, because the guys at the firehouse applied first aid and stopped the bleeding."

Police have identified the suspect in the attack and are searching for him. He is 5-feet, six-inches tall and was wearing a white T-shirt with a blue "M" on the front and blue jeans, according to police reports.

someone please chime in who knows, but i thought the worst that could happen to you in municipal court would be fines which, if not paid, might land you in jail. maybe low level drug offenses get prosecuted (or perhaps loitering in a known drug area?) as well? but otherwise, as far as courts go, isn't it about the least serious? i'm not trying to be trite with the 'as far as courts go', and a municipal judge no doubt has plenty of power, but c'mon it's traffic court.

PBW--you'll be pleased to hear that i was recently ticketed for parking within 25 feet of a crosswalk in downtown jersey city. a farce of an infraction, given that i was at least 15 feet from the crosswalk line, and located on the east side of a 4 way stop, where the traffic flows one way from west-east (so you look west for oncoming traffic and east for pedestrians--not blocking any views).

i'm sympathetic to the general sentiment when one's view is blocked for oncoming traffic, but the jcpa's random/unequal enforcement is seriously frustrating.

Sorry to hear you did not get through...In my experience, the high volume call message is simply the default message, one you get at any time of day and under any weather conditions. And then as you say, they hang up. Have to hand it to a monopoly...

Similar situation, with the electricity portion at $140 in the latest bill, which seems like it just has to be wrong, but bill says it is an actual reading. one-third of the bill is for 'distribution charges'. what's to distribute with energy? it's not like they are trucking it around in a tank...any engineers who can shed some light?

otherwise, good luck calling pse&g...i have tried to get a human being on the line numerous times without success--always get a call back later message. customer service is nonexistent.

Terrific news. A school for adults, which likely means night classes and even more parking headaches for people who live in the area--over the past year it has become much more of a pain to do the alternate side parking thing. I assume it is because of the school, and that things will only get worse. Yay!

don't park on the corners, that's my experience. even when there is no sign and no faded red paint, you may get ticketed. why? apparently, within 25 feet of the curb is a violation--at least that what's a ticket-issuer told me when i asked why he was issuing a ticket to a car under the above circumstances. is it worth it to go to court? no idea, but traffic court exists in some lower circle of hell; reason enough to avoid it.

wait...does this mean that (part of) the plan is to have people from staten island take path trains into manhattan? why on earth is that a good idea? aren't they running at near full capacity as it is?

i dunno...seems like the ambulances and police sirens are far and away the loudest noise-makers in my area (VVP). i heard yesterday that Hoboken has started to enforce a regulation prohibiting ambulances from using their sirens within 2 blocks of a hospital--seems like a great idea to me (barring emergencies, naturally. my gut tells me that most of the time these sirens are used w/o immediate need but for the driver's convenience).
