Re: Liberty Science Center begs Jersey City for $2.5M - Fulop: 'Bailout' by city would set bad prece

I don't think the queens museum is nicer to look at than LSC it just teaches in a much more effective manner.
My whole point is the LSC is all Flash and Fancy exhibit and no substance. It's like the people in charge of the money never bothered to see if the exhibits make any sense, they just walked by saw that it looks good and were happy with it.
The Science of Survival exhibit is particularly badly designed, the target card things that they hand out before you go in don't work with most of the machines they are meant to work with. I didn't get mine to work once. The machine meant to show what you eat, effects world food supply was pointless, it failed to connect the interaction with an illustration of the lesson goal. I could go on and on.

I don't know if he's on or off duty but he's in uniform and he has the police motorcycle parked outside. I only say something cause I've seen him in there about 4 or 5 times in the last couple months.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but it seems to me that quite often there is a motorcycle cop hanging out in the Cigar shop on grove. His motorcycle is always parked outside and fortunately the name is plastered on the side of the bike. I don't mean to complain too much but considering the situation on Erie with the accidents and all I would think his time could be better spent pulling people over for speeding and running stop sighs than B.S.in' with his buddies at the smoke shop.
Just a thought.

This bailout is atrocious!!!!
This museum is inadequate in teaching at best. The executives are frauds, the children can do better. If I was a teacher I would bring then to Queens Science Center!!!!

7 Vp's is ridiculous, so is $350,000 I say let it burn, they can file for bankruptcy, reorganize, lose the fat cats and then and only then maybe talk about a JC loan that has tight restrictions and city input on executive compensation..huh, sounds familiar.
They don't want a JC address? How bout a disgusting attack at the light-rail station and now word of chromium pollution within a mile of the museum. I think the address is the least of their worries.

I went to the Liberty Science Center for the first time on Sunday. It looks amazing, the exhibits are really all out when it comes to appearance. I was disappointed and surprised though when it came to content and usage. Many of the interactive exhibits didn't bring together the hands on activities and the concept in a cohesive way. Many of the machines that people use in the activities just plain didn't work, and there were no notices on the ones that were broken. You would start the activity and half-way through not be able to finish it because the machine didn't work properly. I am a college educated person and I had difficulty understanding many of the activities and the point of then. My sister, a science teacher was also disappointed and mentioned that the queens science center is a much better museum.
Wonderful views of manhattan though and the building is incredible.
I would agree with Fulop and say no bailout. There are things they can do to raise revenue to survive, starting with raising the teacher admission from $5 closer to the general admission of $15-something.

Why don't people secretly video tape this activity, in the day and age when you can get a high def camera for next to nothing. Is it fear of the gangs or the fact that the police won't do anything with a tape?

I say who cares if you are, you should wear a tape recorder and Lipski's friends, if he has any left, can threaten you all they want and you can play it for the media and the lame a$$ story can stay alive. This guy is seriously a class a loser I mean really a piece of $%hit and people should be embarrassed for voting him into office. He is a weasel in the way he says "Oh it is a disease and I don't need to take responsibility for my actions" is dispicable. You know what, if I got hammered went out and drove my car into someones house and killed them, that excuse wouldn't fly and it shouldn't fly for him...period!
The fact that this isn't common sense is the whole problem with Jersey to begin with.

Honestly I think they get away with it because this is a relatively poor city of people who are not residing homeowners. You have a lot of absentee landlords. That leads to non-voting residents and thus no accountability. I think this already has and will continue to change starting downtown with Fulop and all the new homeowners who actually attend neighborhood meetings and give a sh1t. Not that there are not people that care in other parts of the city because there are, just not enough.

Re: KIOSK BADGERING AT NEWPORT MALL

Home away from home

Your cause is noble and I admire that you work hard to promote the Arts in Jersey City, the city needs more people to do that. It's strictly the method of guerrilla marketing that I disagree with, and your right, there is a respectful way to hand out flyers and then there are the ones who block your path and invade your space and I suppose it's only really the ones that are rude enough to almost touch the person with their handouts or cause a person to walk out of the way to get around them that annoy me. Someone else posted above that the Mall Kiosk guy actually grabbed the persons arm in an attempt to get them to stop, this is really unacceptable behavior, and those people should find out who to write a letter to whether it be the company that runs the kiosks or better yet the corporation that runs the mall.
I normally don't just give money to people or causes because I have a mortgage and student loans from hell but if there are other ways to support the arts like attend the openings or galleries I'm down with that. Maybe there is a website you can point me to.

Re: KIOSK BADGERING AT NEWPORT MALL

1djcview said "as far as the people who hand you stuff when you get off the PATH train, if you don't want it, DON'T TAKE IT. Jersey City has become an attractive place to live at least partly because of its cultural amenities, including restaurants and art events, so flyering at a train station is to be expected. If you don't want someone offering you a flyer about a quality-of-life element of your community, then have the limo drop you at home. Purposely stepping on someone's flyers is beyond cynical; it's violent and makes you a jerk.

What is an "acceptable" way to make a living?"

1djcview, just to clear the air here I already take your advice and DONT TAKE ANY FLYERS FROM THE BADGERERS. For the record I am now where near wealthy enough to " Have the limo drop you at home" and to assume so is incredibly presumptuous and arrogant of you in an extremely liberal way. My complaint lies in the fact that I very strongly dislike people shoving $hit in my face in a gross attempt to influence my spending decisions, and in doing so invading my personal space. If you want to reach me in an effective way buy an F#$%^ stamp and mail it to me!
I have had these scumbags sing and dance in an attempt to get me to take their stupid flyers. In line with your advice I still don't take it and in fact, when the BADGERER said " I do all this and you still don't take it?" I said " I don't even like when you guys don't sing and dance.
I think that people should be fined for unsolicited harassment by way of shoving paper in your face.
I know that it is a free country and people will continue to do this but, because it is a free country a have a variety of options in the way I react, as do all people. I do not feel bad for them, it is a profession that they chose when they decided to skip class or drop out of HS or have sex and get pregnant when they were 15. These are all choices and they created their own destiny.
Don't get me wrong I love local business in the Grove area and want nothing but to support the good businesses that improve the area and I look forward to the day when all the dollar stores and discount crap stores that don't have the work ethic to fix their decaying signs are gone.
As far as "What is an acceptable way to make a living?" I suppose "Living" means different things to different people so that's impossible to answer. I would say if the government isn't paying you any money and you don't live on the streets then you are making a living.

KIOSK BADGERING? Hate it! Just as much as the idiots who hand out crap as you exit the grove path station as I come home from a hard day of work. One day the guy accidentally dropped his stack of BADGERING handouts at grove and I "accidentally" stepped on the pile on the ground. Although it's true that at least they are earning money, I don't know if I'd call it a living but it would be worse if they were just homeless and doing nothing but hanging out begging for drug and alcohol money.

Local JC politician huh? A lot of people make the case that an outsider shouldn't be elected for Mayor as in Fulop's case, but I don't see a whole lot of success from Local JC politician's. If it takes an outsider not to get drunk and piss himself or get involved in fighting/intervening in domestic disputes I would say I don't care if he/she's from Kansas! I say we say NO to LOCAL!! Anyone not from Jersey is a good choice in my book. Go Fulop!!

I heard that you can hack this site to get peoples personal information if enough people label you as a fail troll. So the little hoodrat's whose parents are to busy getting drunk, shooting drugs and beating on each other to give a S*it about them should stop posting irrelevant BS about unreported mass murders.

They dumped him in the hudson. Big cover up probably won't ever here about it on the news but trust me, I know people who know stuff. That was before they announced the weekend closure then I got this update email from the website

Dear Fellow PATH Commuter,

YES, like many of you we are aware of the Port Authority's impending closure of the WTC Station on weekends for the next 3 years.

We have updated our website and campaign to reflect our extreme dissatisfaction with this outrageous plan of the PA.

If you are employed in Lower Manhattan and equally frustrated by this imposition on you, please revisit our website and participate in a new email campaign option to your State's Governor and the Deputy Director of the Port Authority.

Click on the "IT GETS WORSE" flashing button on the home page for further information.

Pleasant travels!

Re: Participate in the campaign to get better PATH service - fixmypath.com

Here is the email from Councilman Fulop regarding the fixmypath.com website and the PATH in general.

Last month, I authored a formal resolution that was approved by the City Council and sent to the Port Authority of NY/NJ formally requesting fairness with regard to increased PATH service on the weekends and weeknights. Councilwoman Beth Mason in Hoboken will have a similar request on the Hoboken City Council agenda this month, as we seek the same similar resolutions from councils in Newark and Harrison.

As we approach next year's governor's race in New Jersey, the time for action on an important Hudson County issue is now. I have attached a link for a website www.fixmypath.com which I am using as a tool to show our elected leaders the importance consistent PATH service on nights and weekends to Hudson County residents.

Every signature added to the "solution" page at www.fixmypath.com will generate an e-mail to Governor Corzine, Governor Patterson, and the appropriate individuals at the Port Authority. Lets collectively advocate for Governor Corzine to get the Port Authority to give us the services we deserve. This is an issue about safety, about accessibility, and about your tax dollars. I believe that the collective voice carries the most weight and that if we can generate enough e-mails to our elected officials, we can achieve our goal.

Right now, the Port Authority, the bi-state commission is undertaking a massive amount of infrastructure improvements as well as building a new state-of-the-art PATH station at the former World Trade Center site. What we in New Jersey are asking for is a fair and accommodating train schedule along with some relatively minor improvements to one of our more crowded stations.

Please sign the petition at www.fixmypath.com and pass this along to your friends, your neighbors, and your community groups - Together we can make a difference.

Sincerely,
Steven Fulop
Councilman Ward "E" Jersey City

Re: Participate in the campaign to get better PATH service - fixmypath.com

The fix my PATH site was set-up by city councilman Fulop from Ward E (Downtown JC). It was originally created before the PA announced it's intention to close service to WTC on weekends and was meant as an overall fix on the PATH with emphasis on the Newport entrance and more frequent trains on nights and weekends and to make direct trips skipping Hoboken.
I don't really get the second entrance argument but the rest is of great importance to most that use the PATH.
As far as the PATH the very least they could do is to make sure the cars don't smell like a Bum that hasn't taken a shower in a month, got too drunk and pissed and puked all over himself. PA sucks! So does Michael Depallo and his lame response to the fix my PATH emails but it doesn't get any less classy than Governor Corzine in his offices lack of a response at all and he's the one that can veto the PA's plan. Sometimes I think everyone is right that NJ sucks, as a former NY'er I'm really trying to not to believe it.

I can't wait to watch Comcast's market share in JC shrink to a shell of what it is now. Those terrible customer service rep's are gonna be crying all the way to the unemployment office and it will be there own doing.
It took them 3 times to get me the right cable box! And for the life of me they won't believe that a only use a cell phone and don't need their crappy phone service.
