Re: Democratic Convention
Home away from home
Home away from home

Welcome to Philadelphia from Peopledelphia

This week, over 50,000 people will come to visit the great city of Philadelphia to take part in the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The main events will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City and then down to South Philly to the Wells Fargo Center but as we very well know, Philadelphia is so much more than these two locations.

Outside of Center City and the sports complex, lie an array of neighborhoods that the #DemsInPhilly staff have enjoyed over the past year. We love Philadelphia and we want for those of you about to visit to experience the city and its inhabitants as we have. Brendan Lowry, the man behind Peopledelphia, caught our eye early on as we have experienced the nooks and crannies of this city through his lens. So, we asked Brendan to share with us his favorite locations.

Lady Gaga and Lenny Kravitz are set to headline a concert in Camden, NJ on Thursday, July 28th, as part of the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The event, titled Camden Rising, is set occur just before Secretary Hillary Clinton accepts the Democratic nomination for the presidential election in nearby Philadelphia.

"With the Philadelphia skyline in the background, it is a perfect time to shine a light on Camden?s history and promise," said George Norcross, a member of the Democratic National Committee who is co-hosting the event. "We are happy to be able to invite the staff and volunteers of the Democratic Convention to what we expect to be on of the largest, most exciting events of the convention. The concert will not only be an excellent opportunity for everyone who has helped make the convention a success to relax and celebrate, but it will be a great chance to show the country Camden's amazing turnaround."

Vehicles burglarized in City Hall parking lot

By Michaelangelo Conte | The Jersey Journal

Police are looking for a man who burglarized two vehicles parked in a City Hall auxiliary parking lot by smashing the windows in broad daylight this week.

At about 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the parking lot attendant noticed a man acting suspiciously in the auxiliary lot located at the corner of Marin Boulevard and Montgomery Street, Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said yesterday.

The attendant notified the police officer assigned to front desk at city hall, located at the corner of Grove and Montgomery streets. The officer responded and found two vehicles had had a window smashed, Morrill said.

Mary Ford loves Citi Bike Jersey City, but barely uses the bike-share station closest to her home.

Ford, 57, who lives on Garfield Avenue, would have to walk to Bayside Park to grab one of the Citi Bike bicycles stationed there and use it to get to the Downtown financial services company where she works.

"That's sort of a long, lonely walk past a cemetery," she told The Jersey Journal. "After dark, I don't really want to do that."

Ford is in luck. This week Jersey City announced the locations of 15 new Citi Bike stations, and one of them is outside the Danforth Avenue light rail stop, much closer to Ford's house. She is thrilled.

"I will use it constantly now," she said.

Citi Bike Jersey City launched in September with 35 stations citywide. Along with the 15 new stations, the system will also add 150 bikes, bringing the total size of its fleet to 500.

Installation of the new stations is expected to begin this week.

Nine of the new bike-share stations are located Downtown, where most of its users live: Sixth and Monmouth streets, Sixth Street and Jersey Avenue, Brunswick and Seventh streets, Third Street and Jersey Avenue, Second and Grove streets, Columbus Drive and Monmouth Street, Columbus Drive and Warren Street, the Marin Boulevard light-rail station and at Morris Canal Park.

Hey Ladies!

Donald Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort on Thursday suggested women won't vote for Hillary Clinton because they are concerned that their husbands are having a hard time paying their families' bills.

In an interview with MSNBC's Chris Matthews, Manafort said he wasn't concerned about the Republican nominee's unpopularity among female voters ? because women will be attracted to Trump's anti-establishment message.

"Many women in this country can't afford their lives. Their husbands can't afford paying the family bills," Manafort said.

So America is full of Maliana Trump's leeching off men? Thanks did not know that.

Katrina Elaine Jorgensen is the latest Republican to voice her opposition to Donald Trump's nomination for president. The communications chair of the Young Republican National Federation says she can no longer hold that position in a Facebook post published Monday.

With the practically fulfilled nomination of Donald Trump as our presidential candidate, I can no longer continue to carry out the duties of this position. My principles will not allow it.
Jorgensen says she hopes other YR officials will do the same.

This is not the way forward. I will not quietly fall in line. I will not give up my principles.

I will always be #NeverTrump.

I'm not sure how you quantify perceived pride but people don't like Melania. And not just Clinton supporters.

According to Gallup, Melania Trump has just a 28 percent favorable rating compared to a 32 percent unfavorable rating. That means her net favorability rating is -4 percentage points. That?s lower than Bill Clinton?s net favorability, which is +6 percentage points, according to a recent CNN/ORC survey. It?s also lower than the net favorability of every presidential nominee?s spouse in every final campaign poll that asked the question since 1988.

So she is doing worst than Ann Romney & Todd Palin? now that's low. LMAO

Interesting....

The RNC?s program reads in the middle of the First Lady hopeful?s biography, ?After obtaining a degree in design and architecture at University in Slovenia?,? before launching into a discussion of her successful modeling career.

However, as POLITICO?s Julia Ioffe dug up, Melania Trump never earned a college degree.

POLITICO reports:

??She dropped out after a year,? reports Ioffe, who delved into the potential first lady?s background earlier this year. Melania?s college tenure ended when she moved to Milan, Italy to pursue her modeling career.?

As Trump might say, Sad!

Re: Jersey City planning $20M City Hall annex on MLK Drive

Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal

JERSEY CITY ? Edwin Davis moved to Orient Avenue from Manhattan about a year ago and felt some initial trepidation about the area.

Located near the Hub shopping center on Martin Luther King Drive, the neighborhood struggles with poverty, unemployment and crime. Residents nicknamed the local McDonald's "Smackdonald's" because of drug addicts they see congregating there in the early-morning hours.

But Davis, 57, who was steered to the area by a real-estate broker, said he's "happy to be here." He's even more excited now that the city plans to open a new municipal building in the Hub plaza.

"This gives me hope that this will be a really interesting area and I'm here at the beginning of it," he said.

Davis was one of about three dozen residents and public officials who attended this afternoon's groundbreaking ceremony for the $20 million new municipal building, a City Hall annex that will house about 300 workers when it opens in February 2018.

well, maybe the speechwriter was re-purposing michelle obama's speech.

There are a million other places people can go to where national politics can be debated. And no, clicking all the other forum categorizations doesn't work as this nonsense cuts across all forum categories.

Garbage like this bubbling to the top is the reason why nonsense threads like the Muslim thread and despicable Yvonne's rantings get so many responses. What happened to the forum upgrade that was being discussed a couple of months ago?

I agree completely. One thread is enough. But having more than one is just silly. No reason for a DNC thread or the RNC thread...

I disagree, if you don't want to see a thread you are free not to click on it, I do it all the time.

JERSEY CITY -- A Paterson man is listed in critical condition after being shot early this morning behind County Prep High School, a city spokeswoman said.

The 30-year-old victim was shot in the upper body just after midnight on Florence and Bright streets, city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

While Morrill did not provide how many times the victim was shot, unconfirmed reports from a police scanner indicated the victim was struck multiple times.

The victim was brought to Jersey City Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition, Morrill said.

The shooting remains under investigation.
