Don't worry. Just because you personally haven't seen them doesn't mean that they're not around.

Butchcjg, first off thanks for doing your little bit to help your neighbor out. As you noted, the old lady was probably really scared, just as you were. But that little act of making your presence known to those teens may very well have just deterred a crime that we might've been reading here or in the local papers this morning.

Anyway, I forwarded your post to the Downtown JC Watch group, which compiles these incident reports and sends them to the JCPD, the Guardian Angels, and the growing DowntownJCWatch mailing list. If you have more info, such as a description of the teens, please post them here, and also email the watch group directly at *DowntownJCWatch@gmail.com* to make sure that these incidents are reported properly.

Again, thanks and stay safe!

What time did the fire start? The original message was posted past midnight, but if I'm not mistaken, the freakish thunder/hailstorm happened at around 7:30 pm. I don't remember seeing any lightning or hearing thunder at midnight or so.

Anyway, I'm glad it happened late at night. Hopefully there were no workers there when it happened.

You've GOT to be kidding me!

What's sad really is that a RAPE is the subject of that thread. Geez.

This from the thread where she is attempting to justify her downplaying of a possible attempted rape in one of the Newport buildings.

I haven't been to the NWA forums in a couple of weeks, so imagine my surprise when I saw tonight that the old thread about the rape at Lincoln resurfaced!

Wow, this Sonia truly is a piece of work. I don't know what's more appalling, that she implied that the rape never took place, or that anyone who posts negative things about her is a "nut" and "Steve Fulop's mouthpiece." I really shouldn't care what is posted on that site since I don't live in Newport, but this woman is out of control. I feel bad for anyone living there.

Quote:

Never said the rape happened or didn't happen, just raised the question, " So did a rape actually happen?" You need to reach your own conclusions. The truth is we can't prove it did, or the District Attorney office would have a case, they don't even have a defendant. Nor am I calling the tenant a liar, or saying that she falsified a claim, but there was a failure to substantiate a claim, and I'm also reporting circumstances surrounding this incident from which you may draw your own conclusions. I'm fine with that.

Renuka, the information I reported here is based in part on documents that have probative value, it's factual. You either leave a forwarding address or you don't. In and of itself it means nothing. As an analyst, you must know it has to do with how all the components fit. Obviously, I'm not going to disclose our sources on the internet, as they may be hesitant to talk to us in the future, but some of the information did come from the newspapers, and also, I obviously saw some documents, spoke to people, etc...

Unlike the nuts who post negative things about me (I presume you are talking about Steve Fulop's mouthpieces), most of which are personal, I have nothing against this poor woman. All rape victims have my complete, heartfelt sympathy, including her, whom I have given the benefit of the doubt. BTW, as far as I know the nuts are completely clueless in regard to this matter, and most certainly have given me no information.

I gave this message much consideration before posting on this board, and decided Newport deserves to know all the facts, before we bring this matter to closure. I may have opened a pandora's box here, but I'm just passing on information that I believe is true.

OK, NOW I know this "neighbor" is lying. I'm pretty sure there were some expletives, nouns and adjectives he conveniently neglected to say.

As for the parallels in this and last year's incident, yes, that is pretty amazing. Certainly one of those things that make you go, "hmmmmm...."!

Re: Joe Vas for Congress -- See for Yourself!!!

There was this interesting fellow wearing a Fulop Field Team shirt and handing out Vas flyers on the corner of Mercer & Jersey and later migrated over to Jersey & Montgomery yesterday. When he wasn't busy singing and dancing to his reggaeton tunes from his mp3 player, he was so obviously checking out women's arses and sometimes making lewd comments to women passing by (myself included). Mira, chinita ... insert lewd comment and kissing noise. And no, although my Spanish isn't great, I know that he didn't ask me to vote for Vas in Spanish, nor did he hand me a flyer.

I believe the subject is a bit misleading.

There is more to this than just the obstruction of the Manhattan view. It's primarily about the lack of a democratic process.

Hell, I'm just glad that ugly sculpture isn't being erected anywhere in JC! (Sorry, Bayonne!)

I was at LG yesterday and picked up a cup joe. I can't remember when I'd last been there, but I remembered why I loved going there in the first place.

I agree that a restaurant/bar/cafe's staff greatly influences the success/failure of the business, but I have to say that despite Chris and Mimi's (and Mike's) absence, LG still serves the BEST coffee in JC. I can't go back to Beechwood or Basic after yesterday's re-awakening.

Thanks for the info, Nuada. I sent the following email to Hyndman:

Dear Mr. Hyndman,

This is in response to the May 10th article in the Star Ledger entitled "Superintendents take heat on 'obscene' compensation" which can be accessed on http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/index.s ... 47243075187060.xml&coll=1.

I am a Jersey City resident, as well as a McNair Academic High School (Jersey City) and Rutgers University alumnus. While I am a very proud product of the public school system of both the city of Jersey City and the state of New Jersey, I find appalling the financial abuses of Dr. Charles Epps, which were in violation of state policies and were ultimately incurred at the expense of taxpayers and students in needy districts such as mine.

I urge you to conduct further investigation into Dr. Epps' operational and fiscal spending, and take corrective action as necessary.

Thank you.

We were admiring his peach pimpdaddiness when he passed by the wine bar last night at Cinco de Mayo. Too bad none of us had our cameras handy, though. It's interesting that our friends from Brooklyn & Queens have been graced with the pimpdaddy's presence, though some people from around here [cough, E-F, cough, SkaDave, cough] have yet to see our downtown pimp! As always, thanks for the info, Bright! I was actually confused about the original reports re: Fulop's stance on the JCGA. Glad to hear he's looking at the big picture, which makes a lot more sense and is consistent with his performance so far.

Anyway, I will definitely be there Monday night. PS4 is walking distance from my home, but let me know if you need a ride, and I will gladly take out my green chariot!

When I broke my fever and regained my appetite yesterday, I immediately craved tacos and the chicken soup from Taqueria. I called them, was put on hold for about 5 minutes (though it felt more like ten years), then got disconnected. Seemed like they forgot all about me.

I was bowled over when I read that. We all know the dispatchers suck, but for Troy to acknowledge it and offer no solution was truly shocking. Perhaps a temporary solution is to call the nearest precinct instead. I did this the last time I had an emergency and the cops came swiftly.

Personally, the last time I had to call re: an emergency, I called (201)547-5477 and saw the dispatched officers very quickly.

If you are a speculator and want a higher (expected) return on your investment, you should buy in Bergen-Lafayette or one of the "less desirable" or more up-and-coming areas in JC. Of course, I stress "less desirable" because these areas are generally not as safe or "desirable" as some of the areas in downtown. Also, downtown properties are already selling at a premium.

HP is beautiful and is generally safe, but nothing is 100% safe - in JC or elsewhere. You should do a search for "crime" on this site. Not to scare you, but there was a very recent break-in at a ground-floor apt in the HP area wherein the female resident was robbed and raped.

Also, this crime map on Councilman Fulop's site should give you an idea on some recent crimes:
