The line west of Brunswick hasn't been developed. Just wanted to point that out.

I just want to get all of your arguments in one place since whenever someone challenges one, you switch to another.

- There's no parking
- It serves one neighborhood
- The true cost is hidden
- The city is stealing the property
- The city isn't paying enough for the property
- Other sections have been developed and you have no idea how but it's somehow suspicious

The lot filled with cars next to them is supposed to be getting developed, like a lot of stuff in that neighborhood. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Naw... we figure we are performing a public service helping you get your head out of your butt. Otherwise you will run amok through JC List threads searching for microaggressions like Captain Ahab searching for Moby Dick, the great white whale.

Actually the people who complain about "micro aggressions" are usually the people with their own head firmly planted in their ass. That's why it bothers you so much to have to try and wrap your head around a different perspective that is outside your comfort zone.

Hey, there is a nice civil thread going on about the Cicada. Then some arrogant dope contributes by calling people racist because we were using a product name called Chinese Fire Water?. and that person says he is still offended after being totally discredited. So we are supposed to excuse the terrible accusation? The guy never even apologized. That?s right liberals wouldn?t admit to an error in judgement, they would change it to facilitating a ?learning moment?
Thanks for your useful contributions though, incoherent as they read.

I like how you tried to turn this into a sweeping, generalized political issue. Big thinker, you.

Here: I am sorry. I was wrong about Chinese Fire Water. You people spend too much time on the internet.

This mentality is so very wrong. I own a car and live in Jersey City. I sometimes have to commute to my office in W.Jersey. Just because I work somewhere that is not easily accessible by public transit means I should move closer to my job and leave Jersey City?

If your living preference has enough of a negative impact on those around you, then yes.

Uh oh... I think some one is trolling to be offended on JCList. If you know Terry, he has a special blend that he calls "Chinese Fire Water" behind the bar. The quotes were aimed at those of us who have ever tasted it... and "survived" Lighten up.

Terry's not Chinese, so it's still offensive.

You're offended because a Malaysian bar owner ocassionally challenges his patrons to drink a shot of something he himself calls Chinese Fire Water? You're a precious little petal, aren't you?

How about Tommy, Big Guy and I all calling you out for being a faux outrage troll douche? How offensive is that exactly?

You should talk to someone about your anger issues. Seriously.

The majority of the row houses are brick/brownstones. The few remaining frame homes were there before the brick/brownstones. Most of the frame homes were torn down.

There's no solid rule in determining a construction era downtown. A lot of the Federal and Italianate brick buildings were built between 1830-1860 while a large number of the remaining frame houses were built from 1880-1910. There are certainly exceptions, but that might be too much nuance for you.

Hi, Yvonne. The editors and production staff are in Secaucus, but the reporters are all out in the field. I'm usually at City Hall in Jersey City. Come say hi!

But you are not at the caucus meetings, they are in the evenings. If you were you were there you would have written about the brewery/bowling lease for 99 years for one dollar a year. I am not blaming you but the second largest city deserves better.

Maybe you should start a paper. How about "Irrational Inquirer"?

Fulop's political ally Chico can drive drunk with a city car he shouldn't have been driving, with an emergency light that shouldn't have been used, gets in a wreck and injures others, then gets fired from a no-show county job where he's been robbing citizens blind-that he won't comment on!

Mayor, get your own house in order please.

Unfortunately, Chico doesn't work for the mayor. If he did, then I can understand the complaint. Interestingly, you didn't make the similar complaint to Christie when his staff was off shutting down the bridge and just one person ended up fired for it...

You missed the nearly two hour press conference Christie held when the news broke-he fired who he could, made others resign, and has co-operated fully with every request for information.

How Chico hasn't been arrested for the no-show job is beyond me, but that alone should've been enough for Fulop to tell him to quit. Makes you wonder what Chico must have on the mayor . . .

You must be the last guy in New Jersey defending Christie at this point.

What makes you say that? Porcelain cracks don't typically propagate 5" on a sound piece of cast iron. You usually get crazing, a network of small cracks. You want to know before you spend big bucks, and the guy taking the big bucks might not tell you.

True story: A few weeks ago we were guests at a friend's Catskill house, getting there late. When I got up and wandered groggy into the kitchen the owner says "I'll make you some coffee" and mumbled something about it takes so long to draw a pot of water from the kitchen sink. I ask if there's a problem with other sinks. Nope.

I stumbled over, unscrewed the pullout head from the faucet hose and cleaned the filter screen. "All set". He stood there agape. Then he said: "you know, this has been a problem for like 8 years, plumbers have looked at it, and I was told by the well guy it was a supply problem, and spent thousands of dollars fracking the well". I was appalled at the greed of the contractor (and a little bit at my friends who are no dopes but not handy). Why spend 2 minutes cleaning a screen when you can bamboozle the customer for thousands?

Caveat Emptor.

We get it, you know everything. Yawn.

They haven't been remediated, but NJDEP did a cancer survey over several years and did not see an increase in any areas in proximity to known sites in Jersey City. For whatever that's worth.

If they're developing the lot behind the firehouse, you can be sure stuff will get built on the better side of Newark Ave. I hear Ziggy is in the process of selling off his properties, and the lot next to Legal Beans is also going to be developed. It's fine with me, that whole area is kind of sad.

It's the Koppers Coke Superfund site in Kearny. There's also a Clean Earth facility that "is permitted to receive and process in excess of 3,000 cubic yards of contaminated and uncontaminated sediment material per day" http://www.cleanearthinc.com/locations/koppers

Just poking. I hear other projects are also in the works in that immediate area. If people actually want to live in that thing on Newark Ave sandwiched between the fire house and the turnpike, they'll build elsewhere as well.
