Love the food, but have to agree about courtyard area, under stand new construction, but that back area was totally uninviting... mish mash is being kind. more like chaos clutter, customers should not have to take 5 minutes to look for an appropriate seats.

With the nice weather, who wants to sit inside new seating area? But to sit and look at what looks like a "pile" of patio furniture because there is no room for it... get rid of the fountain create mor space, especially in the back by church.

Was the the new candy shop Sunday... interesting place with lots of choices... the owners/managers were very friendly... ended up with some peices of chocolate... very nice flavor perfect location for a sweet fix after a nice dinner or lunch at the other resturants nearby!

Re: NJ man walks on PATH train tracks, causes security breach

Home away from home

only thing worse than hanging out at the WTC at 2:00am waiting for a weekend schedule PATH train is just missing the 1:59 and knowing its at least 30 minutes for the next train... The PATH runs one track in and out to WTC on weekends... the tunnel walker might have been carrying a full load, but he knew enough to walk in the empty tunnel and probably did the two miles to Exchange quicker than the next train arriving back at the WTC via the other tunnel... actually surprised it hasn't been done before the other night... more frequent weekend service would fix that problem, his problem is that he would have to wait at Exchange Lightrail for even worse, more crowded weekend service!

The amazing thing was most people probably didn't even know there was a congressonial election until Albio's campaign literature started to arrive last week almost daily... then the TV Ads started about the same time. I saw one opponenet sign in a window on Newark Ave. Hard to believe Perez was not reelected... just the wrong column for the bullet.

I noticed that Hudson Camera is closed ... some sort of state, county or city seizure notice... I know the owner... great guy.. I suspect probably a tax issue... what a surpise... probably just holding on for a small business on Newark Ave and basically taxed out of business. Maybe real estate?

believe I saw a news story this week about shutting down an aquaduct to check large feeder pipes... it was in that area and they said to conserve water, but there would be no problem for residents... guess they screwed that up too?

I wasn't aware the city job had a pension? would not be surprised to hear that the council position added something to his other pensions... generally there would have to be some sort of pension board hearing which would probably go to court if it went against him... unless the fix was in not to go after his pension(s). Then maybe they would go through the motion, county looses, no appeal.

Saw the same thing... got on in Hoboken, train was crowded and there was chaos as people getting off squeezed by people getting on; there was no train on the northside... oh by the way, there were at least 4 transit cops/ticket checkers loitering in the Hoboken Station... they can conserve thier energy now too, staying at one station... just leaning over railings talking for the 12 minutes I waited.

Re: Gov. Christie Fires Schools Chief, Bret Schundler

Home away from home

Schundler admits it was his editing of application that cost New Jersey $400 million in federal education funding

I suppose this headline won't change the Christie Bashers who won't give the guy a chance for change... but I would think that a man with his background would know better than to get invovled with coverups, they are to easy to unravel especially in NJ, someone will always talk... as stated earlier this 400 mil was just a federal fix to the junkie states that won't admit an addiction to over spending...

Re: Gov. Christie Fires Schools Chief, Bret Schundler

Christie is the Chief Executive, elected to do a job... he did admit fault with his adminstration when he fired the guy he hired to run the education process for the state.. and now he is taking steps to fix it... if the guy isn't going to be honest with his boss, especially when he knows it is being filmed then there is a problem, Christie fixed it... if he had not taken decisive action, it would have be only a matter of hours before the Christie opponents (NEA Unions) would be calling for Schundler's head, saying the Gov is protecting his political cronies... let's give the Gov credit; his appointee blew it; his actions have put everyone else in state goverment on notice that he won't tolerate finger pointing / deflecting / misleading behavior... unlike some other adminstrations that let bad situations spin out of control for days/weeks, this could not be swept under the rug and it wasn't. The Gov did nothing illegal that is cause for foolish suggestions like asking for his resignation.

Re: Gov. Christie Fires Schools Chief, Bret Schundler

Gov. Christie did the right thing firing Bret Schundler... finally some accountability in goverment... people do not hate goverment, they just want it to understand its limitations dealing with citizen rights... education should be a local as opposed to federal responsiblity; and his guy screwed up trying to get 1/2 BILLION grant from the Feds (who are out of control spending/granting) and he needs to go... he would be gone in the private sector, it is a shame 'cause Schundler seems like a decent guy but his resume said he was a sharp guy with the education system... it will put the rest of Christie's directs on notice. These days NJ can't afford to have these kinds of screwups... there are plenty of them in Washington who are creating more problems then solving

I saw that scene walking down to Exchange Place stop... heard a siren coming up Grand behind me. Saw a polcie car pull someone over @ Grand/Wash and as I started to cut through a parking lot and then saw 3 police cars lights/ sirens rushing toward Newport via Montgomery/Greene. The lightrail north was late and 2 south bound trains passed on the northbound line, southbound train stopped @ harborside and no reports in the JJ ... strange 30 minutes with no mention in JJ.

I guess that is my question... if your business was having a cash flow problem; would you not be tempted to "borrow" from the escrow account of your tenants. They create the accounts...

Any thoughts on landlord defaulting on apartment building; apparently small property management company that brought a number of building in Jersey City / Gold Coast... understand number of properties under foreclosure including my building. I know I can't be evicted... must continue to pay rent, but concerned about security deposit... never recieved tax statement on the account for 2009?

Unless they are still investigating the possibility that the restaurant owners/managers are involved they are really doing a disservice to all the JC restaurants by hanging this cloud over them.

Grand Marshal Nidia Lopez ???? of Jersey City or Orlando
Home away from home
Home away from home

Jersey City's Puerto Rican community will celebrate its heritage this weekend with a two-day festival and a parade.

The Puerto Rican Heritage Festival & Parade Inc. will recognize Grand Marshal Nidia Lopez, a city councilwoman

I would love to ask my Puerto Rican friends a simple question.... of the many deserving citizens of JC such as Officer Michael Camacho JCPD, how she was selected? Did someone confuse her with the new Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor... I do not see similarities? But as long as you have her in a car... why not point it towards 95 South and send her "home" to Florida.

I do not have the list of the indicted handy, but there were other city employees too... one on the Manzo ticket, an at- large candidate (woman) was a city employee in the payroll department... at least that is what I remember from the criminal profiles in the JJ. Can anyone confirm that... all the indicted city employees should be suspended / then fired, especially if they are in a treasury function.

I met Jack Shaw in a neighborhood saloon one night... nice enough guy, brought me a beer... but that night and the few times I saw him later... there always seemed to be some members of the JC Council or other JC goverment officials around... I suspect he knew (did) a lot more than what he was charged with... old school guy who probably did the right thing in some circles...

Remember Paul Byrne... he was proud took the fall without breakin' the faith, even though he got F'd by Robert Janiszewski. That was bigger money than this case...

Re: Several local politicians arrested on corruption charges

What a great day... Obama had a nice quote about the police doing their job in Cambridge MA ; can\'t wait to hear his opinion of the NJ Federal Prosecutor who took these bums down.

And when will all the photos of Camarrano / Healy with Obama, Corizine, Menendez and Lautenberg start turning up... it will be mean spirited, but fun... call it the politics of \"self-destruction\"

The photo in the Jersey Journal of Hoboken Mayor P.C. with those characters at Hoboken Train Station over the weekend struck me as a Perp Lineup... never more true than today...

The city is shotup by street thugs, police officers gunned down and that morning Healy is seeking a photo op and words of praise with Crorizine and President...

Change you can see.... Healy removed crime from the streets and put it back in City Hall where it belongs...

What an amazing day... Meet the new boss.

I went there last night.... They did a great job on the renovations..The outdoor bar was wonderful with the palm trees swaying in the mild warm breeze... the bar is shaped like a sailboat, service was attentive... basically drank beer and someone ordered two cheese platters that were very good... we were looking at the dinners and apps... they looked and smelled great as they were served... place has huge tv screens... for football fans in the fall; it will be a great place to watch games on a nice Sunday afternoon, but it will not be a typical sports bar... We are definitely going back for dinner real soon.

Re: Councilwoman Elect Lopez a Florida Resident?

residency laws??? I would suspect that some form of state sanctioned identification (i.e. driver's license) showing your current address in the state might be one... I would think you might need a notarized document that might have your New Jersey address to get on the ballot??? Of course if you are on the Mayor's slate... those are mere technicalities, that only apply to everyone else.....

It's amazing what kind of garbage floats to the surface after a Jersey City election... The Council knew about the tax increase and it was never talked about with any substance by the candidates or the mayor... I suspect this Lopez story was common knowledge too... why the media / other candidates sat on these stories and let the whole Healy slate get (re)elected makes you sick...

they did this 4 years ago after the election... 18% if I remember to the home owners, property owners/ renter's after it was passed on... change you can see (and feel lighten your pocketbook)... Tax increases are working so well at federal/state level, can't you feel the stimulus package working???? Will be fun to watch real estate prices plummet more... at least everyone is paying their fair share :) including all those "rich people" in the Towers and on the waterfront

otnemem , a little politcally correct sarcasm... it was great scientific mumbo jumbo that a couple others caught on too... came to me after I read a news story about how wearing less clothes will reduce the carbon foot print... it sounds good though; I like the the other latin description for the cloud formations.

The sky caught my eye about 8:55 last night out my kitchen window... very strange but interesting lighting effect in the sky.

I figured it was probably global warming... they say as the world warms up it is supposed to naturally reduce the rainfall in the atmosphere because the rising water lines will saturate the atmosphere with water vapor.

100% humidity thus reduces the natural rain fall turning areas like Lincoln Park into massive deserts, but great water front property in JC.

Re: City Council to Renegotiate Abatement For Developers
Home away from home
Home away from home

all these developers have come back to ask to changes in their sweetheart deals... for the most part they have built subpar properties as cheaply as possible and asked top dollar basically for the prime location... now that the market has crashed, outside of speculators, people do not see the value in the properties... whatever happened to "the master plan" for the waterfront area? Has anybody looked at Hoboken, especially the Northwest area... built huge unattractive buildings that at least from front have zero quality of life appeal... Blocks and blocks of these buildings; looks like the old Soviet Union bulding style. This is a good point for the city planners to step back and reassess what is good for the people; not the developers or speculators who have no long term investment in the community... there should be a focus on other sections of the city

Re: City Council to Renegotiate Abatement For Developers

The "people's representatives" @ city hall have never been honest... do not remember the specific Fulop proposal ( may have been pay-to-pay or the conflict of intrest prop with city managers holding city/county/statejobs during the same business hours and collecting FT paychecks for all jobs) but his people were in the streets and City Clerk Byrne (City Legal) came back and changed the rules to collection of votes... it made you sick to see that ploy... after the touchdown was scored, they moved the line back and then lied about the interpertation of the law... need to hit every ward and local organizers, especially the African American wards whose citizens are being victimized by so much street crime... it is a quality of life issue for those people, especially where these abatements come into play... rasing property taxes will not effect people in thier "Crystal Towers" but it does effect the rest of us, every year...making our properties unaffordable because of high Tax Assessments.

Re: City Council to Renegotiate Abatement For Developers

all the effort spent on a recall is time wasted on dealing with the real issues of this city... better to spend time building the grassroots to upset the political machine and developers running the city into the ground for thier own pleasure and financial benefits... abatements served thier purpose years ago to address financial risk for people willing to put the thier time and money into a bad situtation.... all these latecoming developers are (were) risking nothing and thier profits are being accumalated on the backs of tax paying single family / multi family home owners and the renters who absorbed 18% tax hikes... think that hike from a couple years ago was bad... what till next year.

That was a stupid plan to begin with... thank God they effed up the master plan for the WTC putting everything behind... that is something I can't believe the esteemed JC Council didn't bring up when the idea to shut down PATH service on weekends to WTC was published last winter.
