Re: Backyard campfires? Are they legal?

They are definitely not legal in JC. I did one many years ago and promptly had firetrucks outside the brownstone.

With the above said, I do agree that is completely selective enforcement.

I've gotten enough tickets to know just to completely avoid any spot that could be questionable.

I typically will avoid corner spots or fire hydrant spots unless I'm 100% certain that I am far enough away, regardless if I see others that park in the same spots without issues.

Are you certain the ticket wasn't there Monday morning? How could that be possible?

They are computerized, I highly doubt the JCPA can backdate a ticket.

What is the description of the ticket? You are probably too close to the corner.

By fighting it, you certainly aren't wasting the meter maid's time. It's not like they have to show up in court.

I'm sure you'll be able to get it dismissed if you show them pictures that there are no signs posted.

That said, I would think that you're time would be worth more then $42 (or whatever it costs) rather then spending 3 hours or so in court. So it's usually not worth it.

Perhaps you should just get a permit for $15.

Great.. I look forward to it. I always thought it was stupid to have the kitchen in the middle of the bar.

Why did you shut down?

Were you not making any money or were there too many complaints?

I live right around the block, I like the option of the bar being there, but I think the drink prices were a little too high for a neighborhood bar .. so only stopped by 3 or 4 times.

I use this one:

He's very good, however, it's in Little Falls. I don't believe there are any in Hudson County.

I would agree with security deposit on the pet. I also think that the pet should go into the lease, meaning 1 small dog does not equal 4 Rottweilers.

Also disagree with missmags on the pet issue. I think you need to take it as conditional policy, meet the tenant and find out about the pet. Otherwise, you are really cutting down on good perspective tenants.

That is ridiculous to assume that someone with a dog is going to leave a mess behind and have all other pets in place all the time. Sounds like it's coming from someone who had never actually had a pet, because most pet owners are very responsible.

I say meet the tenants, and see what the deal with the pet is.

This is coming from someone that has an elderly dog (16 years), has no plans to get another one after it passes, but has been discriminated from apartments because of it.

How do you fit 2 BR is in 650 sq foot apt?

I would agree that $1650 give or take would be about right. The size kills it (I've been looking for a 2BR condo for about 5 - 6 months).

Another recommendation for Flash Lube... been using them for a few years, they are quick, cheap, and never had a problem.

I had a Integra stolen off of Wayne Street 3-4 years ago. It was recovered about a month later with no engine and no exhaust.

It would've been better if they didn't recover it because I had to pay a few hundred bucks to get it out of the impound lot.

Other then you knowing that you're stealing fellow residents parking spots, you should be okay as far as tickets, IMO.

Re: Wayne St - Bike stolen right out of my apartment

near the corner of Wayne and Barrow.

as for the question regarding layout of building... it's a ground floor apt in a brownstone. Metal gate to enter the basement floor building, long hallway, then 1 door at the end which is the front door of the apartment. The bike was hanging up in the hallway.

Nobody has any business other then the owner of the building and my wife and I for being in the hallway. Someone must've known that there were bikes in the hallway (fortunately they only got one).

Only people that are even in there besides us are utility guys such as the meter reader.

yes. it was in a private hallway (solely used for my apartment) right outside the main door for the apartment. Pretty ballsy for someone to do it at the time they did. If they made any noise at all, they would've been caught. Plus, you don't see too many people riding their mountain bikes around downtown in the middle of winter.

I wouldn't have thought I needed to lock up my bike inside my building.

don't have renters insurance, I imagine the deductible would probably have been more then the value of the bike ($400).

They took it from the hallway right outside the front door of the apartment. I was in the living room, right on the other side of the hallway wall.

Wayne St - Bike stolen right out of my apartment
Home away from home
Home away from home

Around lunch time today, some scumbag walked into my brownstone (in the hallway leading to the apartment), took a book off the wall and stole it. All the time with me sitting about 15 feet away on the other side of the wall.

Unfortunately, the outside gate to the apartment was cracked open for them to get in, and I had the blinds on my front windows closed so I didn't see anything. Amazing that I didn't even hear anything.

Luckily they must not have had time to take the other bike or anything else.

If anyone has seen any thugs making off with green trek near Wayne and Barrow, please let me know.

Thanks.

Still no FIOS available on Wayne Street (odd numbered buildings near Barrow) even though the fiber has been hanging on the poles in front since the spring.

Not surprised at all.

A few weeks ago I was taken by surprise as I was driving on Wayne St (near the corner of Jersey), see a female police officer get out of her car and approach 2 black males sitting on a stoop with her pistol out of the holster and aimed at the two men as she approached.

That was the first time I saw a pistol aimed at anyone in my 35 years.

As far as I could tell the two men seemed unarmed, yet probably had some type of domestic disturbance.

I guess thats just how JCPD needs to approach situations around here.

both of those theaters are pretty crappy in my opinion. The one near WFC is pretty decent.

Also the new one in Secaucus is decent, good stadium seating but relatively small theaters.

Elizabeth has the nicest and largest theater, however, you'll have to deal with crying babies and roudy thugs.

Your best bet is to take the PATH over to WTC. There's a decent theatre over near World Financial.

Re: VERIZON FIOS
Home away from home
Home away from home

Unfortunately, if you live on the odd numbered house side of Wayne (near barrow)... we're pretty much SOL on any hope of getting FIOS.

Mark has been very helpful with me in attempting to get us service, but even though the street has been lined with fiber for nearly the past year, engineering won't let us draw off of those lines (as all new condos or new installations have been for years).

Instead they are saying they will somehow miraculously gain access to my backyard to string some fiber up on the telephone pole that is falling down (pretty much a 45 degree angle) with wires and boxes dangling all over the place. And all of this by November? . .. haha. . perhaps they meant November 2011 when they finally come to the realization that they will need to wire directly from the street.

Ha.. yeah, I bet their really gonna get involved with that disaster. I guess they'll need to spool the fiber through my f'n living room in order to gain access to the pole.

Very dissappointing to say the least as I've been waiting for fios for at least 3-4 years now.

So if you have an odd numbered house on Wayne -- probably from the 50s to the 70s ... hope you still enjoy your Comcast.

I'm sure competitors have probably look at all the business you folks are doing. Good business people recognize when they can simply take anothers business. The day will come.

My car was damaged at Shoprite while shopping at Shoprite. Their towing practices are unethical at the very least.

You don't seem very impartial about your evaluation of Shoprite in my opinion.

As regards your attack on my business acumen. I'm a graduate of Babson College, one of the best business schools in the country. I've worked as the general manager of a 125,000 square foot supermarket and presently own my own business. You are entitled to your opinion but please do not personally attack me just because you disagree with an opinion of mine.

Just because people tolerate Shoprite today doesn't mean they will forever. They have lost me (and my family of 5)as a customer and you don't have to be a business genius or an economics expert to realize that losing customers is not in the best interest of a business.

Thank you for strengthening my resolve to boycott this Shoprite until they acknowledge and try to fix their abundance of severe problems.

Not attacking your opinion, it's just a strong insinuation when you say "Clearly something has to change", as if the whole world agrees with you.

I clearly see a very crowded Shoprite any time I enter the store, which means they must be doing something right. For a store like Shoprite, a crowded store is what makes is a success. Many here don't personally like it, because of the mere fact that it's always crowded .. fine, go shop at A&P, I don't think Shoprite will mind.

When the time comes that the public does not like the condition of the store, they will stop going to Shoprite, put a dent in their revenue, and then you would perhaps see a renovation.

However, due to their lower prices, and convenient location for most, most will continue to "suck it up" and shop there, thus I don't see the logic in "Clearly something has to change".

Also, I do agree that the towing that happens in that parking lot is unethical, but I've yet to hear anyone say they gotten their car towed while they were merely shopping in the shopping center. As for your car getting damaged in the parking lot, hey, sh!t happens, not the store's fault.

nah .. I just get a kick out of stupid, nonsensical arguments that some try to make.

That said, i did work at a shoprite as a kid 20 years ago in upstate NY... but it was less ghetto, so most of the complainers here would probably be okay shopping there.

"Clearly change needs to happen at Shoprite."

hillarious!! Clearly? Hmm.. why? because you and a few people on a message board were insulted by the rudeness of people that shop there?

LOL!!

"Clearly the place is a cash cow"

Okay, so the place is a cash cow. What does that mean.... hmm, guess it means a lot of people shop there, regardless of the life changing terrible experiences that some of you people have there.

So again, the place is a cash cow, but CLEARLY things need to change? I see from your post how educated you are, but have you taken Economics 101 before?

"Hopefully if you drove there your car wasn't towed or damaged."

When someone can prove that they were legitimately shopping at shoprite and had their car towed, that would be the first.

ahh. . to each their own I guess

It just doesn't seem logical to me to drive 40 miles each way to go pick up some food.

I guess, I must be more adaptable to the ghettoness of Shoprite as I find it asinine to drive an hour each way to go food shopping then to have to deal with the rudeness of a cashier for 5 minutes.

Re: ShopRite - the place where you feel safe!

This thread is very comical to me.

Talk about being picky. Complaints about the grocery shopping experience and the cashier's personality. The idea of driving to Bridgewater to do your grocery shopping is just great.

For christ's sake, the place has just about everything you need, is right around the corner, and has good prices. Does it really matter if the cashier is happy?

And the comparison's to Pathmark are a bit over the top as well. The few times I go to that parking lot, I fear my car might get stolen while I'm in there. I wouldn't be caught anywhere in the vicinity of that area after dark as I truely do fear for my safety and well being.

Shoprite = overcrowded & perhaps lower income families looking to save a few bucks

Pathmark = ghetto, fear for my life
