Re: Dan is still Dan

Home away from home

If switching affiliations didnt entail speaking to the council and stating that we dont need play to play reform that combats wheeling... then I would of considered dan as a candidate. Unfortunately he did stand in front of the council and say that, after all wheeling disproportionately benefits his team's campaign. I wont vote for Dan because I attend council meetings and see who the aspiring politician is, not who he claimed to be. Dan spent years crafting a reputation that presented him as "anti-healy," "pro-reform," and about "preserving our city's landmarks" and in a 3 minute video clip he destroyed that reputation.

Fletcher you must of studied revisionist history (you certainly didnt study economics if you liked newt) because you have a strange recollection of newt gingrich's relationship with bill clinton.

Democrats dont vote for newt gingrich. Just an fyi.

I have to correct myself. I did not mean bayside park, i meant to reference the park being developed under the skyway where the tire fire was in the 70s which healy mentioned last night. That clarification should help explain the reference to golf course and lincoln park.

Ive lived in 4 of the 6 wards in this city and dont feel i need to visit any more, but since you know jc so well, im up for you giving me a guided tour if thats what your offering.

Btw. Where bayside park is... My dad lived nearby in the 60s and 70s. It and lsp were apparently all junk car lots so i will admit that the state really did a great job transforming that area in to parks

I honestly have to say that bayside park is a joke. It will be the least used park (outside of criminal activity) because it is on the wrong side of 440 and relatively close to lincoln park. What a waste of land and excuse for a county golf course. Put parks where we can use them

If our council was going to do a symbolic show up support for this act, as our council did for the DREAM college act, what would Mario do? Would he represent our city's, and his ward's, LBGT community or would he vote in a manner that shows he puts his right wing beliefs above the rights of our citizenry?

Its funny, obama and milly silva said nearly the same thing... Its almost as if the same person is scripting a statement for them... That makes for a very genuine sounding endorsement. Well i concede, jerry can stop campaigning now. Btw, do you think obama knew that gonzalez preaches against obamacare, that brennan is a racist, or about his PAC legal issues?

You are on the inside now Dan. You are at the table and you therefore have the ability to make a real impact by demanding to know what the plan is to protect the existing homes rather than allow for these huge foundations to be built on top of mini hills that will divert water around them and only collect storm run off for their "stand alone" buildings.

Clearly the fact that the administration has had many meetings with developers to push their projects (new ratables) forward and none for the public must cause you great alarm and is surely something you can change right now.

Councilman Fulop and I started the pressure 18 months ago to help alleviate flooding to the Van Vorst Park and Paulus Hook area and these fixes are the only thing that the administration has to hang their hat on and will come nearly 2 years after Irene.

Exactly when do you stop with the lines "it will take generations" and everything is crumbling and actually start doing, instead of telling people what they can do to help the City that is not doing their job? The people of downtown deserve a candidate that is going to start fixing the situation and not just hand out a brochure telling them what they should be doing because they won't see relief in their life time.

Water ? A Plan to Minimize Impacts of Stormwater

Our aged sewer system is inadequate and crumbling, resulting in flooding and sewer backups. Breaches create underground streams that force water through building foundations.

Fixing the system will likely take generations. A long-term capital plan must be created to plan repairs and upgrades. Steps can be taken now, however, to minimize the impact of stormwater on our sewer system during periods of heavy rain.

?Water ? A Plan to Minimize the Impacts of Stormwater? is a plan that focuses on slowing stormwater runoff from entering the sewer system during storm conditions. The plan recommends:

Creation of a Municipal Utilities Authority Master Plan for infrastructure improvements:

-Increased use of High Level Storm Sewers (HLSS)

-Maximum use of green space

-Low-impact development

-Green parking lots, streets, and highways

-Green roofs for new tax-abated development

-Rain Gardens

-Larger tree pits

I'm still shocked at the fact that Peter Brennan said he 'doesnt think anyone should expect greenville to be just as safe as downtown.' That kind of a statement from a councilman, the president at that, who is supposed to look out for all the residents of our city... its disgusting. Donnelly was the only one who realized at the time how outrageous a statement that way. But to be honest, I dont know what shocked me more... Brennan's statment or the fact that Richardson nodded in agreement with him. Then again, Ive come to expect her to "say one thing" to the voters and "do the other" when it comes to representing them.

This church really is a regressive group, the type that you dont want to believe is in a place as liberal and educated as northern new jersey/nyc. Truly a step away from snake handler churches. Belief that not just those who don't believe in jesus goes to hell but that catholics (since they believe in the "wrong jesus") go to hell as well. Talk about preaching intolerance in a city where over half of the population is catholic, muslim, budhist, or jewish.

So long in fact that literally none of the posters, despite the fact that theyve been involved in JC politics and activism for decades, know who I am. But its not cause I've been in the closet, cause being out of the closet is [apparently] the central tenet of my campaign. I helped put together an art show. It was a lot of fun. Thats another reason to vote for me... I like fun art shows. But not as much fun as not liking taxes. Thats wayyyy more fun and it differentiates me from everyone else... I think? I dont know for a fact because I never felt the need to actually see what my opponents opinions are. Oh well. BTW, despite being SUPER active in the downtown community I am wayyyyy better than Candice Osborne and Dan Levin, you know, those people that everyone apparently knows but me? As a founder of a small direct mailing business (everyone loves junk mail and coupon packs for crap they dont need right?) with no overhead I know a lot about city budgets! Before I go, dont forget that I'm an independent - granted, the reason I'm an independent is because nobody wanted me to run with them! I wonder why? Isnt it strange that Jerry Walker is running for mayor without any representative from Ward E... Wait a second I'm from ward e!?!?!?! Anyway, vote for me! Fletch! Cause hopefully I cant screw up that bad!

I really hope this doesnt become a roadway that would create more through traffic on narrow downtown streets! Besides worsening traffic downtown it is a waste of money since you can drive in to liberty state park by just driving 2 blocks further west on grand...

They should just rebuild the bike/foot path.

BTW, is anyone else amazed that a study costs $500,000! The roadway would probably be less expensive than the study!

60%!?!?! Is that legal? Your rent must be really cheap or they're trying to get you out of there b/c that kind of increase is outrageous.

My guess is the rent is pretty cheap, all the homes they purchased around here they raised the rents from 50-70% which is not bad since the original rents were like 800 bucks a month. However every home they purchased they did major work so a three bedroom renovated house with parking is worth $1400 a month. I have nothing but love for these guys. They have made the surrounding area a little more beautiful, its a breath of fresh air from the typical absent, section 8 collecting, south jersey landlord.

Re: Power Lines in JC

In terms of other people paying for it. Everytime you enjoy cheap natural gas, im paying for it. Any gas you enjoy from the marcellus shale in pa has been extracted by costing me happiness. 5 years ago i was able to hunt in pa and have an almost certain chance of coming home with a deer, but as shale drilling has expanded, wildlife in many parts of eastern pa has declined significantly. This is a prime example of the tragedy of the commons. Of course im not being compensated enough by cheap gas to make up for my inabilty to enjoy the outdoors as i once did (nor can the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of outdoor enthusiasts). I place approximately $1500/yr as the current cost of fracking/drilling to me, im probably saving about $75/yr in energy costs from fracking in pa. Im a net loser by about 1400/yr, i am personally subsidizing 19 people (as is every hunter to varying amounts). The more wildlife populations decline, the more im subsidizing borisp's power (& i dont want to give him anything for free)

Re: Power Lines in JC

Borisp, your problem is your attempt to use arithmetic and oversimplify. Its the reason you and your legion believe that an economy is analogous to a household budget. You try to frame problems in terms you understand, but you just dont understand enough to approach the problem correctly. to a carpenter every problem looks like a loose nail. You can try to ignore the importance of scale and convergence but just because you dont understand something doesnt mean its wrong. I work in finance, im not a teacher... I dont have the patience to teach someone that doesnt want to learn. Buy an economics textbook and learn the theories regarding production, competition, marginal cost and benefit, etc from an actual authority rather than from a two-bit fiction writer and the koch brothers. I know, i know, you came from a shitty politboro state and suffered so dramatically that its encouraged you to not give a shit about any of your neighbors.

Mdm, you are correct, chineese dumping has lowered the price of solar panels which is why us based firms failed. Dumping creates short-term reductions in price but if successful results in deadweight social loss as competition is lessened.

Some firms did fail. However, you have to ask why they failed in the market. Part of the reason is because even with subsidized loans and other programs that support the industry, the fact that the fossil fuel industry is subsidized more disrupts the market dynamic. As a libertarian you should believe that no company should be subsidized. If you think about the effect on market prices between two 'substitute-able' products with varying subsidies (assuming scale is different in the ST but equal in the LT and that the LT cost of oil extraction is increasing while the cost of alternative decreases with scale to a point nearing unit cost convergence) there is no doubt that the product with greater subsidies can reduce its price to a point to a level where the rival (less-subsidized, or subsidized with leverage) product is not profitable. This is essentially how the economic concept of "dumping" works. Luckily for you, if you want me to draw and upload the graphs that support this statement I can (I have a degree in economics from a top 10 school and am a CFA charterholder).

My point wasnt about when it will end, my point was about when it will be less cost-effective and what the effect on the structure/volatility to the market/economy/society will be from subsidizing an unsustainable product. Just because something is far off shouldnt be that you shouldnt prepare for it. When you first started working were you near retirement age? I'm going to guess not but I'll wager that you started to save for it (or should have).

Thats true, but not what I was saying. You were alluding to the fact that something has to be pinpoint measurable in an immediate period, i was saying that something can be predicted within bounds. There is a reason that 99% of the worlds leading scientists believe in climate change. I'm no scientists so I cant say they are right or wrong but by your statement I guess you dont consider any of those nobel winners to be scientists?

For a while there was no experimental proof for the Theory of Relativity, but I never said that "science is something that has experimental proof". I said, - "Science is something that makes TESTABLE PREDICTIONS".

The theory of relativity DID make testable predictions. And those predictions could be tested. And that means that the Theory of Relativity was a "scientific hypothesis"

Eventually the predictions WERE tested, and that upgraded the Theory of relativity from "scientific hypothesis" to "tested scientific theory".

BTW, you do realize that it did not make The Relativity Theory anything like "science is settled"? You do know that the science is never settled, unlike "junk science" which frequently is?

I concede. However, theories can still evolve. Changing a theory to say "change" doesn't mean you dont have a theory... it means your theory is one of volatility. Not having a concrete answer on something (that might not ever be answerable or only answered once its too late) doesnt mean you don't prepare for the possibility it is correct, there is a cost-benefit tradeoff that should be considered that guides what you do. If the cost is low then why not assume its correct? the likelihood of your house burning down is low but you still buy fire insurance...
