Gentrification 101 - However it pushes certain socioeconomic and demographic groups to the fringe where crime figures increase. I surmise that there are neighborhoods in the tri-state area with worrying or increased crime figures.
JC is out pricing many working stiffs - I don't call it gentrification, but economic cleansing that often has a racial overtone.

It's worth following up with a mention that JC's rate is the lowest it has been in decades as well (as are the rates for most cities in the country). I thought the stat that they now have 600,000 people and a lower rate than when they had 170,000 was pretty impressive (although 45 for 170k is horrifying).

http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content ... e-totals-are-historic-low

There were 27 homicides at the mid-point of 2012, and the year ended with 62. The numbers were lower in 2011, when just 23 murders occurred in the first six months of the year. The final tally of homicides in 2011 was 51, the lowest number since 1966.

If the pace through June 27 continues for the rest of the year, Nashville would wind up logging approximately 38 homicides. In 1963, the number was 45. And according to U.S. Census data, only 170,000 people lived in Nashville back then, compared to nearly 600,000 now.
