Jersey City native is top college DJ in the country

A Jersey City native has been named the best college DJ in the country.

Every Sunday night, Angie "Type A" Szani, 21, takes over the airwaves of one of the nation?s top college radio stations to play her custom mix of indie rock, new music and well-researched band interviews.

The show earned Szani the title "Best U.S. College DJ" in a new contest sponsored by the International Radio Festival, a group that highlights the best in broadcasting, according to a report on NJ.com. Szani beat out more than 50 DJs from nearly 30 colleges to win the title last month.

The senior at Seton Hall University spins tunes at 89.5 FM WSOU-HD in South Orange.

"Hello all you listeners," chirps the fast-talking, endlessly upbeat student DJ. "This is ?The Campus Buzz.? Get ready for some alternative, folk and indie for the next three hours. If that?s not what you want to hear, well, turn your radio off. Otherwise, listen up."

The contest prize comes with an all-expense-paid, weeklong trip to France later this month, to attend MIDEM, the world?s largest music industry conference. Szani is unsure exactly what IRF has planned for her at the event, held in Cannes.

"They are keeping it kind of secretive," said Szani. "They are getting me some meetings with music execs."
