That is really terrible -- wonder if the attacker followed him from the bar.

I wonder if he was coming from Guillo's at 6th & Coles -- or the Music Box (at 7th and Monmouth) -- or from the place called 9th & Coles... guess he could even have been at Lucky 7 or other nearby places....

This is a sad story it may occur again and again perhaps the perp will hit on the wrong person next time. If the guy was killed I wonder if the murderer would have been caught. The cops should use the same investigative crime tools used in murder to unvail this mugger.

Man's face slashed during robbery in Downtown Jersey City

A 61-year-old man who tried to fight with a robber in Downtown Jersey City was stabbed in the face early this morning, police reports said.

Police were called to a home Coles Street at 1:31 a.m. this morning on the report of a stabbing.

Police met with a 61-year-old man who was bleeding heavily from a deep 4-inch long cut on his face, reports said.

The man said he was walking home on Coles Street near Seventh Street after leaving a bar when a man confronted him saying ?gimme the money? while holding a knife, reports said.

The victim said he threw a punch at the robber's face, but the robber cut him in the face and slashed his stomach, reports said. The assailant then grabbed the man's wallet from his pocket and fled, reports said.

The victim left a trail of blood from the crime scene to his apartment building where he had called the police, reports said.

The victim, also appeared intoxicated and could not describe the contents of his wallet, reports said.

The injured man who had a 6-inch superficial cut to the left side of his stomach in addition to a deep 4-inch cut on his face, reports said.
