4 county workers made ill by fumes in Hudson County Plaza building

Wednesday, November 16, 2011, 4:44 PM
By Ken Thorbourne/The Jersey Journal

Four county employees became ill today after inhaling fumes today at Hudson County Plaza in Jersey City, The Jersey Journal has learned.

All four were taken to Jersey City Medical Center and at least one of them was admitted, JCMC spokesman Mark Rabson said. Two of the county workers were treated and released and one was under observation yesterday afternoon.

It is believed that the fumes were from spray paint or paint thinner.

A source at the county building, at 257 Cornelison Ave., said that workers were spray-painting Board of Elections machines and the fumes wafted into an office where six or seven employees worked.

Hudson County did not immediately return calls for comment.

Late last month the County Plaza cafeteria was closed for at least three days after rat droppings were found.
