Man beaten with pipe in Jersey City by woman he thinks he hit with car

By Charles Hack/The Jersey Journal
October 18, 2009, 5:58PM

A 69-year-old driver told police that after stopping to check on the condition of a pedestrian he believed he accidentally tapped with his car Saturday night, the woman threatened him with a knife and hit him with a metal pipe, reports said.

Police were called to an assault at Pacific and Johnston avenues at 11:17 p.m., and spoke to the driver of a Nissan.

The Kennedy Boulevard man told them he was driving westbound on Pacific Avenue when a woman jumped in front of his car, reports said.

As he raced to assist the woman, she pulled a knife and hit him with a pipe, reports said.

The man was treated at Christ Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, reports said.

The woman left the scene and police are searching for her.
