Companion Animal Trust and other local rescue organizations in the area have many wonderful kittens rescued from the streets while doing Trap Neuter Return this Spring. Their mom cats will not be making any more little ones thanks to us.

June is adopt-a-shelter-cat month Monday, June 15, 2009 By DENISE D. GIBSON JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Calling all animal enthusiasts and cat lovers. June is recognized as Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month and Jersey City's Liberty Humane Society is hoping you or someone you know is interested in giving a friendly feline a home. This nationwide movement involves many humane societies- like New York's ASPCA -because the summer months are kitten season when there is a rise in the kitten intake and decrease in adult cats getting adopted from shelters. "It's hard for people to resist those big kitten eyes," said Director of Operations Aurora Piacentino, "They're adorable and so dependent on you for everything, people can't say no." The LHS, which is located at Liberty State Park, is hoping to beat its record from last year of 500 cats placed in new homes. The organization will be waiving the usual $120 fee for cats over 3-years-old to give them a little bit of an edge over the hard to resist kittens. "A lot of the times, the older cats get overlooked," said Director of Development Janet Russell. "Some of our sweetest cats are the adults and it's such a shame people look them over," said Cattery Supervisor, Kathi Blocklyn "It's hard to see your favorites stay at the shelter for months when you know that they'd make someone a great pet, if just given the chance." Liberty Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for stray and orphaned pets, helps provide medical care for injured animals and raises awareness of homeless animals.
