The answer to the question is, "Yes, tax abatements negotiated with the city can be extended."

Call the city's Department of Finance and ask to speak with Ed Toloza, the tax assessor. I've found him helpful in the past when I had questions about my property tax.

I believe the newish office building north of the Loews and south of Little India on Kennedy Blvd had its tax abatement extended or renewed. I think the owner is someone important."

I live in a newly constructed building downtown. For some reason the building was only granted a 5 year abatement versus a 20 year one like so many other buildings. Is their any procedure for having the abatement extended?
