Nimbus Dance Works celebrates 11 Seasons at Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center, June 2-4, with a collection of works by leading international voices in contemporary dance. In an increasingly fractured geopolitical world climate, choreographers become agents of communication between artists, audiences and communities, expressing ideas that fly between the framework of politics, border and language. Geolocate features: the North American Premier of "Mapping" by Darshan Singh Bhuller (UK), "Untitled" by Korhan Basaran (Turkey), "Shadow of Sound" by Huang Yi (Taiwan), and "Surface Tension" by Artistic Director Samuel Pott (USA).

Says Artistic Director Samuel Pott, ?So much of what colors our view of communication across borders, language and cultural difference, is delivered in the context of deeply troubling current world events. In Nimbus? upcoming New York season, we hope to reveal a sense of connection across difference that emerges through the physical communication that is the essence of dance itself. I find it profoundly hopeful in today?s world that dancers, choreographers and communities can gather around dance to share intimate understanding and commonality.?

Darshan Signh Bhuller?s Mapping is a tour-de-force work for nine dancers. Comical, poignant, athletic and subtle, Mapping emerges from Mr. Bhuller?s fascination with maps and the notion of "viewing life and the world from above". The piece is an abstract narrative that follows Bhuller's late father's journey from India to the UK. Mr. Bhuller, whose career spans decades in the UK as lead dancer and choreographer for London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Artistic Director of Phoenix Dance Theatre, and as an independent filmmaker, set Mapping on Nimbus Dance Works this year, the first professional company to perform the work in North America.

Korhan Basaran choreographed Untitled on Nimbus in 2012 for 6 dancers. Set to renowned Turkish composer Fazil Say's impassioned vocal score, Untitled speaks to deep anguish and primal aspects of man and woman in relation to one another. As contemporary artists creating work in the turbulent socio-political environment of current-day Turkey, Basaran and Say both are able to convey an immediacy and intensity that seems to remind us all not to take expression for granted.

Shadow of Sound, created on Nimbus by Taiwanese choreographer Huang Yi in 2013, creates a world where sound, light, and movement energies merge and dancer's bodies become mysterious representations of physics and pure beauty. Recognized by Dance Magazine at one of the dance world?s ?25 to Watch? ? Huang Yi is celebrated in internationally for his innovations in choreographic approach including his work ?Huang Yi & Kuku? a duet performed with a robot partner.

Nimbus Artistic Director Samuel Pott?s Surface Tension explores the notion of surfaces and borders ? the surfaces of the dancers? bodies illustrate the meeting point between self and other and the stage space belies a world of borderlines and crossings. Surface Tension is set to the piano music of Johannes Brahms and Franz Liszt, along with an edited sound score created by Mr. Pott.
