A Newark man has been charged with burglary and kidnapping after he told a Jersey City woman he was a police officer to gain access to her apartment, according to a criminal complaint.

Alteric Hines, 21, of Mapes Avenue, made his first court appearance Tuesday via video link from Hudson County jail for the incident that allegedly occurred on Monday.

According to the complaint, Hines told the Palisade Avenue resident he was a police officer that needed to gain access to the basement of the building as part of a drug investigation.
