Vintage photos: Jersey City parks throughout the years

By Rebecca Panico | The Jersey Journal

Jersey City's parks have served as a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life for decades.

However, some have also been eyesores at different points in time.

This collection of vintage photos depicts Lincoln Park, J. Owen Grundy Park, Van Vorst Park, Hamilton Park and Pershing Field through the years.

Lincoln Park, formerly known as West Side Park, has undergone many renovations throughout the years, while other parks have also gone through a series of changes.

In the 1980s, many parks were graffiti-ridden, the photos show, and in 1901 a tornado ripped through Van Vorst Park, uprooting several trees.

Jj piece?
