The Hudson County Board of Freeholders has approved a $525 million budget that calls for $323.7 million to be raised by taxes, a 4.49 percent increase over the last year's $309.8 million levy.

The county taxes make up one of three portions of a taxpayer's bill, with municipal and school taxes making up the rest.

On Tuesday, the county measure was approved 6 to 3 with Freeholders Anthony Romano of Hoboken, Caridad Rodriguez of West New York and Bill O'Dea of Jersey City voting against the budget.

As has been the trend for several years, Hoboken and West New York are taking the biggest tax hit.
