A Jersey City man who made off with nearly $15,000 from a pair of bank robberies in Hudson County was arrested Tuesday night at North Bergen motel, authorities said.

Richard Wandell, 47, was apprehended at the West View Motel on Tonnelle Avenue after being tracked there by detectives from the Jersey City Police Department Major Case Unit and the North District, Jersey City public safety spokeswoman Carly Baldwin said.

A man who robbed a Jersey City bank on Friday fled with nearly $2,500 after threatening to shoot people inside if employees did not fork over cash, police said.

The bank robber -- who was described as being 5-foot-6 and wearing black framed eyeglasses -- entered the Chase bank branch at 374 Central Ave. in the 3 p.m. hour, according to a police report.

The man, who was also wearing a light blue denim jacket, dark jeans and boots, approached a bank teller and slid a note under the safety glass. Realizing that the man was there to rob the bank, the employee told him that she needed to input several codes into the system in order to retrieve the money from a safe behind the counter, police said.

But the bandit became agitated and threatened to "start shooting people if she did not give him the money," the report stated.

Although the man never brandished a weapon during the heist, he made a gesture to suggest he was armed, police said. The teller then left her station and informed the bank manager of what was unfolding, the report states.
