Ticketing truckers who clog Turnpike Extension 'beyond stupid,' says N.J. trucking group: report

BAYONNE -- A New Jersey trucking association is calling the Port Authority's decision to ticket truckers clogging the Turnpike Extension "beyond stupid," claiming the move will only "foster dysfunction," JOC.com reported.

Tom Adamski, representing the New Jersey Motor Truck Association's intermodal council, told the international trade website that blaming truckers for lines at terminals "is beyond the absurd." 

In response to motorists' complaints last week about terrible morning traffic on the Turnpike Extension between Newark and Bayonne, the Port Authority said on Friday that it would begin ticketing truckers who line up earlier than 5:30 a.m. at the Global Marine Terminal port facility on the Jersey City/Bayonne border.

Rather than punishing truckers for lining up, Adamski told JOC.com that terminals in the area should open their gates earlier and also add an overnight shift of longshoremen to operate terminal gates.
