Three women were shot early this morning after two gunmen fired into a crowd outside a Jersey City housing development, officials said.

The incident took place shortly after midnight at 22 Montgomery Court, a complex just west of the Turnpike Extension off Montgomery Street.

The two gunmen fired multiple rounds into the crowd and fled on foot, police spokesman Bob McHugh said.

The three victims -- Jersey City residents ages 40, 32 and 29 -- are in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries at Jersey City Medical Center, McHugh said.

Several witnesses gave descriptions of the shooters to detectives, McHugh said.

One suspect is described as male, about 6-feet tall weighing 170 pounds, and wearing a dark-colored fitted hat, a bandana as a face mask, a three quarter-sleeved black T-shirt and black sweatpants. The second shooter was only described as wearing a dark hoodie.
