I thought it was very powerful, and yes, "artistic, in a good sense, in that it uses a medium that is overused by silly reality TV, nauseatingly patriarchal and heteronormative "drama" (Mad Men, anyone?) to get me to think about being on receiving end of endless video feeds. This time, the real, overlooked USA, as opposed to the made-up USA (Duck Dealers, anyone?).

I'm saddened to see a stretch of JC depicted, though. I always feel JC has a vibrancy that the rest of America has lost...

Its artistic IMO, I have several images of Ocean and MLK in my home office that look similar to this. Art for me is a communication of emotion and this screams sadness and realness.

Pretty big leap to call this "art" and to assume that the street this gentleman is riding through is "bleak" and full of "closed down businesses."

By LYDIA WARREN
Resized Image

Struggles: A man cycles along a Jersey City, New Jersey street lined with closed-down businesses. Google blurs out faces to remove the identities of those captured by its cameras, giving Rickard's art an eerie quality
