In a monumental change to the Jersey City early childhood education system, a Bergen County nonprofit will take over the Head Start program in June, pushing out the Jersey City group that has managed Head Start for nearly half a century.

Greater Bergen Community Action, which last year assumed control of Paterson's Head Start program, will receive $8 million in federal dollars to manage the city's Head Start program, currently run by Jersey City Childhood Development Centers (JCCDC).

JCCDC has managed Head Start in Jersey City since 1965.
