2-alarm fire at on West Side Avenue in Jersey City
By The Jersey Journal on September 24, 2013 at 10:23 PM, updated September 24, 2013 at 11:31 PM A two-alarm fire broke out on West Side Avenue, near Kearney Avenue, tonight shortly before 10. Firefighters were battling "heavy fire'' and smoke at 405 and 407 West Side Ave., according to fire spokesman Bob McHugh, who said there appears to be major damage to both buildings -- which have storefronts at ground level and apartments above. The Eiser Hardware Store at 407 West Side Ave. is at one of the buildings on fire. One firefighter injured his finger and was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, while another was being treated at the scene, McHugh said.
