JERSEY CITY - Dozens of people chose to sleep on the streets of Jersey City Friday night for a special cause.
The city's homeless youth population has jumped to nearly 40 percent since the start of the 2008 recession. In that span, thousands of homeless young people across the state have been taking advantage of the services provided by the Covenant House, a related nonprofit charity. However, the organization only has a limited number of beds, prompting the Friday sleepover to raise money and awareness. Covenant House has locations in seven cities in the Garden State.
