Jersey City police have charged a second felon in the attempted murder of a man shot five times on May 29, but the first man charged remains on the run, officials said today.
Kerwin Whaley, 26, of Oak Street, was arrested Friday on charges that include attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses, reports said. George Rodriguez, 28, of Ocean Avenue, was charged with the same offenses shortly after the 7:57 p.m. incident on Armstrong Avenue. Three of the bullets went through the man, who also suffered two broken bones, police said. George Rodriguez, 28 Rodriguez has not been caught and police are seeking the public's help in locating him. The victim was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center and into emergency surgery for wounds to his right chest, right shoulder, right leg, left arm, groin, and both buttocks, reports said. He was later listed in stable condition, officials said. Whaley was in prison from Jan. 29, 2010 to May 25, 2010, Aug. 19, 2010 to June 6, 2011 and Nov. 10, 2011 to March 8, 2012 for making terroristic threats, a drug charge and three weapons offenses, corrections records say. Rodriguez was in prison from Dec. 3, 2003 to July 2, 2004 for drug possession and drug distribution within 1,000 feet of a school, corrections records said. The victim has several convictions, including for violent crimes, and has served prison time. Anyone with information on Rodriguez's whereabouts is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.JJ
