Kudos to Jersey City Health Dept for getting an ASPCA grant to cover the cost of the distemper shots! Animal Control has definitely become proactive and forward thinking in the last 4 years. Keep it up.

Jersey City will host it's third annual Pet Owner's Day clinic series to provide rabies and wellness shots to dogs and cats who live with their owners in Jersey City.

The clinics, starting on April 22 and running through June 16, are a result of a $10,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) as part of their national campaign to vaccinate animals.
"I strongly encourage dog and cat owners to take advantage of this event," said Jersey City Mayor Jerremiah Healy in a statement. "We felt it was important during these difficult economic times to find private funding for animal health and hope that all pet owners keep their animals up to date on all necessary shots."
The event, that started with one event in 2010, has grown to eight separate clinics throughout the city.
Dogs will be administered the DA2PP vaccination for distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza and parvovirus.
Catis will be administered the FVRCP vaccination for feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia.
The vaccines can cost around $35 if administered at a vet's office.
Dogs must be licenced to receive shots. Cats are not required to have licenses in Jersey City.
"For many people, pets are part of the family," Healy said. "The best way to protect their health is by keeping them up-to-date on wellness shots. We are happy to be able to provide this to our residents free of charge."
Licenses for dogs cost for three years cost of $20 per neutered dog or $30 per unneutered dog. Residents who wish to license their dogs for only one year will pay $8 for neutered pets and $10 for unneutered animals.
All dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.
2012 Pet Owner's Day Clinics will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the following locations:

Sunday, April 22nd @ City Hall, 280 Grove Street
Sunday, April 29th @ Bethune Center Parking Lot, 140 MLK Drive
Saturday, May 5th @ Pershing Field (Behind Skating Rink), 201 Central Avenue
Saturday, May 12th @ Country Village Park, Sycamore Road
Saturday, May 19th @ Audubon Park, 103 ? 129 Bergen Avenue
Saturday, June 2nd @ Riverview/Fisk Park, Palisade Avenue
