I honestly believe the city wants This area unsafe. There is a lightrail in Greenville which should bring in new people, but the lack of police on foot keeps the hood, the hood. If the city put some effort into Greenville allot more people would consider buying, renting or opening up businesses there. I think the over development of DT and The WF would mean the city would see many empty units. Just my opinion, but the plans is slowly backfiring in their faces.

Take a look at the many crime incidents within this year alone, mind you we are still in Feb.

Jersey City mayor and police chief to address public's public safety concerns at meeting Thursday

February 28, 2012, 3:00 AM
By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy and Police City Tom Comey are hosting a public meeting this Thursday to address public-safety issues, and to unveil the city?s new Community Response Team.

It will be the first of two ?town hall-type? meetings city officials pledged to hold in response to a recent wave of complaints about crime from residents and some City Council members.

The Community Response Team, comprised of the 17 officers promoted last week to detective, will address public safety and quality-of-life concerns, city officials said.

Rebutting the residents? and council members? complaints about crime, Healy, Comey and other city officials have stressed that FBI and State Police figures show a decrease in violent crime in recent years.

Comey said he believes the Community Response Team will help ?narrow the gap? between how city officials view crime statistics and how residents perceive them. The team will stay involved in an investigation from start to finish, and will be able to brief the community when it can, he said.

?We?re hoping that this will be a good step in at least narrowing that gap,? he said.

In the meantime, city officials hope to add to the police ranks, which have been depleted by a wave of retirements, Comey said.

Thursday?s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the council chambers at City Hall, 280 Grove St.

You can always call the non-emergency number which is 201-547-5477. You do not have to give your name. I have used it before and have had mixed results depending on the level of the crime. As far as actually initiating an investigation into drug-dealers etc. I imagine you would have to personally approach the police. In some cases I think there may be investigations going on by undercover narcotics police or even the feds. Unfortunately the dealing often continues while the cops are slowly building a case and trying to rope in more and more dealers, suppliers etc. As far as property crime is concerned people have to keep their eyes open. I have witnessed crimes and assisted in 9 people going to jail. It's all a matter of being alert and aware when people are acting suspiciously. I have no use for Captain's meetings or Mayoral meetings as they just spew the same crap to assuage the residents.

I agree user111 however what about a number that you can anonymously text that way those around you do not know that you are reporting the crime. With all the advancements in technology you would think that something like this would be possible.

Where does one call in anonymously to report crime? The JC Police website is awful it looks like a preschooler did it, when I lived in any other city there was a number you could call to report crime anonymously, here there is no number at all listed on the website for anonymous tips. I walk through certain areas and see crime being committed and I think If I see it why are the police not seeing it. There are stores were drug dealers are just dealing drugs right in the open. This town has become a joke. We have residents here screaming over the Jersey Shore, but wont say sh*t about the crime here because its not in there neighborhood. Well JC is small and these criminals have cars, bikes, take the lightrail, buses, and path. They move throughout the city spreading crime.

Have you gone to your Captain's Meeting and discussed this just curious as to what the captain has to say ? IT and being proactive is not on the police priority list being reactive is the usual response which is usually after the fact.

Jersey City officials to host public meeting on crime concerns

Rebutting the residents? and council members? complaints about crime, Healy, Comey and other city officials have stressed that FBI and State Police figures show a decrease in crime in recent years.

There were 1,851 violent crimes in Jersey City in 2010, down from 2,456 in 2007, according to State Police figures. Most violent crimes are down in that three-year span, though murders are up from 20 in 2007 to 26 in 2010, the last year for which the figures are available. Jersey City police says there were 18 homicides in 2011.

Thursday?s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the council chambers at City Hall, 280 Grove St.
