3 robberies in Jersey City Friday night

Monday, December 06, 2010

A Jersey City man was robbed of the gold jewelry he was wearing in his mouth and $675 in cash in one of three armed robberies in Jersey City Friday night, police said.

Police were called to a robbery at Ocean and Wilkinson avenues at 8:30 p.m., and met a 30-year-old Bayview Avenue resident with a bruised right eye, report said.

The man told police he was walking on Ocean Avenue when a man grabbed him from behind, began choking him, and punched him in his right eye, reports said.

A second man, he said, pointed a knife at him and grabbed $675, as well as the gold plate worth $900 he was wearing over his teeth, reports said.

At 9:22 p.m., police were called on a report of a robbery at Sycamore Road near Ferncliff Road and met a 26-year-old woman, of 39th Street in Bayonne, who said she was talking on her cellphone when a man pointed a handgun at her and demanded money, reports said.

She handed over her designer handbag and cellphone, reports said.

Then at 11:04 p.m., police were called to Giles Avenue, where they met a 52-year-woman who said she was walking west on Fox Place toward Giles Avenue when a man approached her with a gun, reports said.

She turned over her pocketbook and cellphone and the man ran toward West Side Avenue, reports said.

Three Jersey City residents were robbed in separate incidents Thursday night, two of them by gunpoint, according to police.

A 51-year-old female from Liberty Avenue was walking in the area of Liberty Avenue and Thorne Street at 7:19 p.m. when a man approached her and demanded her purse, reports said.

The robber showed a handgun and the woman turned over the purse, which contained a cellphone, $180 in cash, a driver's license and credit cards, Lt. Edgar Martinez said.

At 9:30 p.m., police responded to a Monticello Avenue home on reports that a 26-year-old Atlantic Avenue resident was assaulted and robbed by a group while visiting a friend, Martinez said.

The victim said he was approached in a second floor hallway by about 10 juveniles and one adult who punched and kicked him after they demanded money, reports said.

The robbers took the man's wallet, cellphone, keys, and $35 in cash, Martinez said, noting the victim was treated and released at the Jersey City Medical Center.

Then at 11:45 p.m., a 35-year-old man was walking his dog in the area of Randolph Street and Myrtle Avenue when two juveniles put a black semiautomatic handgun to his head and demanded "everything" he had, reports said.

The victim was robbed of an iPhone worth $400, reports said.
