A 45-year-old Jersey City Heights woman who was scheduled to fly back to Guyana early this morning was found stabbed to death in her home late yesterday afternoon, officials told The Jersey Journal today.

Shrimatie Parasram of Prospect Street, off Oakland Avenue, was found lying face down between the kitchen and dining room on the first floor of the residence when her teenage daughter returned from afterschool activities, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said.

Parasram had been stabbed multiple times in the back, DeFazio said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:03 p.m.

An official cause of death and more accurate description of Parasram's wounds will likely be available following the postmortem being performed today at the state Regional Medical Examiner's Office in Newark, the prosecutor said.


Parasram was fully dressed; there was no sign of forced entry to the residence, and the murder weapon has not been recovered, DeFazio said.

Investigators have interviewed family members and neighbors but a motive has not yet been determined, DeFazio said.
