Worker slashed by a shoplifter

A Big Savings Supermarket employee on Ocean Avenue said his hand was slashed early yesterday morning by a shoplifter, according to Jersey City police reports.

The 46-year-old man told police that at approximately 12:03 a.m. a woman entered the store and attempted to shoplift several items.

When he confronted her, she grabbed a large knife off the store counter and cut his left ring finger when he put his hands up in defense, reports said. Neither the victim nor his co-workers could tell police the direction the suspect fled.

The victim refused medical treatment, reports said.
