City settles injury case
Tuesday, August 22, 2006 Jermaine Marcellus, 31, was awarded a $300,000 settlement on Wednesday for a suit against Jersey City for failure to maintain Garfield Avenue in a proper and safe condition. The settlement was approved at last week's City Council meeting. Marcellus was injured when he drove his motorcycle over a pothole on Garfield Avenue in November 2002. His bike caught on the pothole, his shoulder hit a pole and he consequently lost all use of his left arm, he said. Marcellus incurred over $160,000 in medical bills, said Corporation Counsel William Matsikoudis.
