How can someone go about getting a street repaved?

Newark Avenue is bad the whole way -- it gets the most truck and bus activity which beats it up.

The area on Newark around Brunswick is crazy and all they ever do is put one or two minor unlevel patchs here or there -- it's a joke.

They do nothing to smooth or resurface the street, yet they spend a lot of time on much less used side streets.

Streets should be redone by need not by some OTHER criteria.

City settles injury case

Jermaine Marcellus, 31, was awarded a $300,000 settlement on Wednesday for a suit against Jersey City for failure to maintain Garfield Avenue in a proper and safe condition.

The settlement was approved at last week's City Council meeting.

Marcellus was injured when he drove his motorcycle over a pothole on Garfield Avenue in November 2002. His bike caught on the pothole, his shoulder hit a pole and he consequently lost all use of his left arm, he said.

Marcellus incurred over $160,000 in medical bills, said Corporation Counsel William Matsikoudis.
