I spoke to an employee at the MUA and I asked about rate increases. He said, "Yvonne, we are spending one billion in repairs." That was his way of telling me there will be increases. One would think more information would come from city hall on this type of spending.

The city sell water liens on homeowners who cannot pay the rate at the end of the calendar year, so some homeowners are losing their homes basically due to corruption.

+1

those little $12 a month insurance fees would really add up nicely for those boot heel lickers...

*even when their payout limit would not even cover the actual costs of that type of repair.

Instead of protesting their assessments and tax figures (the number won't budge much even on a successful appeal) people would be better served putting their energy into demanding better services in exchange for their higher tax bills and an end to this kind of corruption.

Are homeowners going to be refunded any of this surplus because it sounds everybody was improperly overcharged.

The Jersey Journal

JERSEY CITY ? The state comptroller's office has issued a highly critical audit report that describes multiple instances of fiscal mismanagement at the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority.

The MUA repeatedly raised water and sewer rates despite having multimillion-dollar surpluses; did not perform financial reviews to determine if rate increases were necessary; lost an estimated $575,000 in revenue after failing to collect payments from bulk-water customers; and allowed its former executive director to give himself raises and other benefits without board approval, according to the 36-page report, released today.
