JERSEY CITY - Two people were fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide early Thursday morning, officials said.

Authorities said a man and woman were found dead on Bright Street behind Hudson County Prep High School and across the street from the Booker T. Washington housing complex, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.

Sources say a gun was found near the two bodies.

By 6 a.m., police had already left the scene leaving behind a few strands of crime scene tape. As residents awoke and employees arrived at the nearby high school, many were searching for answers about what happened.

One man who works at the school, who asked not to be identified, couldn't believe what happened just feet away from County Prep. Yesterday afternoon, he said, a man and woman were arguing nearby, though it may have just been a coincidence.

"Even during the day it's usually pretty quiet," he said.

Gene Rubino, Chief of Investigations with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, did not comment if the murder-suicide was a domestic incident. The murder is the third in Jersey City this week.

Early Saturday morning, Amir Pleasant, 20, was shot in the chest on Dwight Street. He attempted to drive himself to Jersey City Medical Center, crashed his car outside the hospital, and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Later that morning, Albanelis Vidal De Larosa, 51, was found dead wrapped in blankets on Reservoir Avenue. Her ex-boyfriend, Miguel Angel Cabrera Romero, has been charged with her death.
