Jersey City expected to award $1.2M animal control pact to Liberty HumaneBy JERSEY CITY - The City Council is expected to vote Wednesday on a $1.2 million contract that would privatize the city's animal control services. The competitively bid two-year contract is expected to be awarded to Liberty Humane Society, which was selected over the only other applicant, Newark-based Associated Humane Society. The city's Health and Human Services Department currently oversees animal control. According to the resolution, Liberty Humane Society - a nonprofit located on Jersey City Boulevard - would be paid $555,397 for the first year of the contract and will receive an additional $93,000 one-time startup fee.
