Second man arrested in connection with Jersey City murder
By Caitlin Mota | The Jersey Journal on March 30, 2017 at 7:03 PM JERSEY CITY -- Authorities have arrested a second man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old on Union Street. Dashawn Mixson, 20, has been arrested for allegedly murdering DaJour Riley on Tuesday. The news of Mixson's arrest comes one day after the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office asked for the public's assistance locating him. Riley was inside a car when he was shot multiple times. He was driven to Jersey City Medical Center where he died less than three hours later, authorities said. Vernell Mohammed, 19, had already been arrested in connection with Riley's death. Both men are charged with first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The prosecutor's office announced Mixson's arrest on Twitter. A spokesman for the department said information surrounding the arrest would be released at a later time. It has been a violent week in Jersey City, with a second man fatally shot on Wednesday evening near a city elementary school. Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said the murders are believed to be related.

Much of the violence on the streets has been the same families and gangs for years. Most of these shootings are gang related. You can just do minimal research through the articles released in the past to see the connections.

Charges announced for 2 men in Jersey City fatal shooting
By Caitlin Mota | The Jersey Journal on March 29, 2017 at 4:01 PM, updated March 29, 2017 at 4:29 PM JERSEY CITY -- The 19-year-old man murdered Tuesday morning was shot "multiple times" and two men have been charged in connection with his death, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced. DaJour Riley was sitting in a car near Garfield Avenue and Union Street at about 11:45 a.m. when he shot multiple times. He was driven to Jersey City Medical Center in a private vehicle and was pronounced dead about three hours later, Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a release. Authorities have arrested Vernell Mohammed, 19, and charged him with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Dashawn Mixson, 20, is also wanted in connection with Riley's death. Mixson has already been charged with murder, conspiracy, and weapons offenses. He is considered "armed and dangerous," according to the statement. Anyone with information about where Mixson may be is asked to contact the HCPO by calling 201-915-1345 or by leaving an anonymous tip online. Mohammed is expected to make his first court appearance on the charges Thursday afternoon. Riley's death is the fourth homicide in Jersey City this year.
