New Jersey Senate passes "parental responsibility" legislation

New legislation in New Jersey will make parents criminally responsible for the actions of their children. Part of a growing trend throughout the United States and internationally, a series of bills passing through the state Senate will allow for the prosecution of adults for ?neglectful? parenting.

no wonder you dont see many kids playing out with others in 'murica!

Few months back, I read an article about what was the most significant experience parents from USA observed when they moved to one of the Scandinavian countries. It was something on the lines that kids play, fight, get hurt but then they go back home, get a bandage and come back to the playground the next day. Its not about their parents suing the hell out of every neighbor, county or state, and keeping them in a "safe sanctuary" where they have no idea how to stand up to bullies and look after themselves on their own.

And then we complain our kids dont go out!

Bullying is wrong I hope the instigator gets what's coming to him. But to turn this into a legal battle will be a tough hill to even crawl. Is there a more productive way to knock the bullies down ?

wow ! So a peaceful kid tormented by a bully is a good thing for the peaceful kid in your books ... I guess the mind-set of the victim needs to change and not the assailant's, sits well with you!

Fighting back builds backbone and enhances competition. All part of growing up. Good luck in enforcing the payouts though. The irony will be that sweet revenge will prevail, sort of a spin off of the bullying.

Maybe our NJ / JC legislators could also look at this idea ... some parents might think twice when having kids, then 'washing their hands' of any responsibility in raising those kids !
