Man wanted for murder took own life within sight of family member's home

JERSEY CITY -- The man wanted for murdering a woman this morning in Jersey City shot himself in the head 100 yards from a relative's home, residents at the scene said.

The man wanted in the fatal shooting of a woman this morning in the Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City was found dead a short time ago, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Jersey City officials confirmed.

The man, who has not been identified, was found at 11:30 a.m. on a bench in Mercer Park, a county park in Bayonne, on the Jersey City border, Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

JERSEY CITY -- A woman who was shot in the head on Monitor Street this morning has died, according to police radio transmissions.

Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said the victim was in a car with the suspected shooter around 7:30 a.m. and when she got out of the vehicle he chased her down the street and began shooting at her.

She got into another vehicle, where she was shot, said Morrill, who added that the second woman was cut by the shattered glass. In early police radio transmissions, police said the second woman was grazed by a bullet.
