Just bought a used car in ny state and I have to get my car inspected. Just wondering if the wait times are crazy or if it's not too bad during the day. I'm trying to go Friday day, possibly morning.

They're fine. The end of the month is a little busy. Just don't wait until the last hour prior to closing to go - they close the line about 30 - 40 minutes before closing. Make sure all of your documents are ready to go and hand out the window when it's your turn. They're sometimes a little gruff, but you're in and out pretty quickly.

I always take my car to Secaucus for inspection. They are usually fast, never spend more that 15 min waiting on line.

What others have said. Heck, I have even gone there on a Saturday morning and, despite there being a line of cars waiting to go in, it moved relatively fast. I listened to the radio for about 10 - 15 minutes, and then made it to my inspection. If you can/want to put it off until the weekend, you will be fine. It seems like a lot of people don't know about this free option, or assume it is a hassle, so not enough people take advantage of it.

it's not too bad, I don't think I've ever waited more than 5-10 minutes to get my turn (even at lunchtime), and then the process is about 10 minutes itself.

But of course avoid the last week of the month when everyone is rushing to meet their expiration date - I don't know for sure but would assume it's buisier then.

On a weekday it's fast as long as you avoid a.m. and p.m. rush hours and lunchtime.

Go to http://pweb.nj-cleanair.com/waitqueue/pages/facility/home.jsf

and click on the inspection station you want to see

On this Monday morning it's wide open
