Residents in the Jersey City Heights neighborhood where a 30-something year-old man was fatally shot on Fleet Street early this morning said the gun blasts melded with a local fireworks celebration, so initially, they ignored the loud bangs.

But when they saw police officer flocking to the building at the corner of Concord Street with guns drawn, they knew something bad had occurred.

A man was fatal shot this morning at 22 Fleet St. in the Jersey City Heights, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed.
