Just remember the amenities are quite thin on the ground at Sandy Hook, and the walk from the parking lots to waters edge can be a bit of a schlep. Have you considered taking NJ transit to one of the shore towns? I'm sure you could get a cab or Uber from most of the train stations, and many are very kid friendly-Manasquan built last summer a terrific playground area on the northern edge of their beach. And kids love taking the train.

The Seastreak ferry takes you to Fort Hancock, which isn't all that far from the beach, depending on what part of the beach you want to get to. The nude beach (Gunnison) is the closest one, if that's what you're into. Or the other beaches are 20-30 minute walk.

Or just take a bike with you and enjoy a nice bike ride around the park.

I know it's still early, but I'm really looking forward to taking the boys out to the beach this summer. We don't have a car, so will need to take public transportation, along with lugging all the beach gear (like towels, food, water, etc). We're also planning to do this on weekdays.

Does anyone has advice on the easiest / least stressful way to do this?

I know SeaStreak runs a ferry from Pier 11 to Sandy Hook. This will still require us to take another ferry back to JC (I'm thinking of taking the one from Pier 11 to Liberty Landing Marina, and walk the rest of the 10 min home). Even though it doesn't sound that bad, this would be at the end of a long day at the beach, with two very tired boys.

Also, I assume the ferry doesn't drop us right off on the beach at Sandy Hook. Is it a long walk from the ferry terminal to the actual beach?

Anyone know if there are buses in JC that runs to Sandy Hook and back?

Any ideas / suggestions welcome!

Can't wait for the summer!
