Not sure I understand your question, but when I was born there in 1947 the demonym was Brooklynite as it was in 1910 when my mother was born there.

I think what he means is that for Brooklynites who are considering moving to the suburbs, Jersey City offers them an alternative that allows them to remember what it was like to live in a city.

The "uniqueness" of Jersey City is what makes it a more attractive place for former Brooklynites than other places along the Hudson County Waterfront, according to the city's new deputy mayor. Marcos Vigil, speaking to a group of investors and developers at a recent real-estate summit at Maritime Parc, said the distinctive neighborhoods found in Jersey City make it a more attractive place for New York expats than, say, Hoboken. "Each one of the neighborhoods here has a different feel to it," he said. "I strongly admire what all the mayors in Hudson County are doing but we're ... trying to just take advantage of the uniqueness of Jersey City to make it grow." Story
