What was with the crowds of schoolkids marching all over town yesterday morning around 10am?

There were hordes of kids streaming all over town yesterday accompanied by cops. From Dickinson they were headed both down Newark and south on Baldwin. What was up? I was trying to meet an inspector and was beating the dashboard while hundreds of kids trudged by. Saw more up in the Heights.
