New Jersey City University plans $42M expansion
By Andrew Sheldon August 29, 2014 at 12:17 PM New Jersey City University is planning a $42 million construction project on 22 acres of land that will include a new residence hall and an academic building. ?The academic building is designed predominately for the music and theater program,? NJCU President Dr. Sue Henderson said. It will include two major facilities: a 250 seat performance space and a 100 seat lecture hall. There will also be a choral room, dance room, additional practice space and general classrooms. Part of the purpose is to bring more energy to the west side of both the campus and Jersey City. The project will also address a growing need for housing. The new residence building will more than double the amount of students living on campus, adding 425 beds to the existing 300 for the college?s 8,400 graduate and undergraduate students. ?We?ve done a demand study and we?ve determined there is definitely an appetite for this,? Henderson said. The space has also been divided into several parcels that will make room for retail and market-rate housing. ?We?ve had a lot of conversations with a lot of businesses just to explore what the market would bear down here,? she said. http://www.njbiz.com/article/20140829 ... sity-plans-$42M-expansion
