Jersey City police have shut down the area around a Downtown apartment building this morning after receiving a call that a person in the building was threatening to shoot someone, according to police radio transmissions and a person at the scene. The reported threat, at 10th and Erie streets, was relayed to Jersey City police by Garfield police, according to radio transmissions. Garfield police referred calls regarding the threat to Jersey City police. Police has shut down roughly a 4-block area around the building, said Joe Shine, a freelance photographer for The Jersey Journal. Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said P.A. police are at the scene at the request of Jersey City police. Pentangelo said initial reports are that there is a person with a gun.
