well this is certainly a topic that warrants an outrage.

Understood, but the slab I'm talking about on Jersey Ave has two colors. Both sections are new, but the colors are drastically different.

All new concrete on the sidewalks has to be that dark grey color. The slab on York, pretty certain that is what the historic board is making everyone do (it's not like the owner picked the color or had a choice).
Maybe in 100 years or so we'll have all grey sidewalks (of various shades of grey).

Well that's not really the issue I'm talking about. I'm talking about where there is new concrete poured, specifically on Jersey Avenue. Some brand new concrete that they poured is Color A, and other adjacent sections of brand new concrete that they poured is Color B (darker). Seems bizarre and it looks terrible, so I'm curious as to what the methodology is there. Actually, there is another square of newly poured concrete on the south side of Van Vorst Park, on York Street. The color isn't even close to the existing color of surrounding sidewalk. There seems to be a lack of pride among city personnel in the aesthetics of the area; the constant destruction of trees is another beef of mine.

The sidewalks along Newark avenue are dyed when poured. Concrete poured without pigment will never match the other sidewalks along the street.

Concrete is composed of a portland cement and aggregate.
The cement is white and the aggregate is gray (sand and rock). As the surface cement washes off, the field will become gray. Take a look at some of the intersections completed 2 years ago & you'll see what it will eventually look like.

Why should the city follow their own guidelines?

Recently 3 or 4 corners of Jersey Ave sidewalks have been replaced (around Mercer/Wayne intersections). Does anybody know why an "island" of white concrete was poured among the traditional, uniform dark concrete on all these corners? It looks ridiculous!
