The ones you see advertised locally on street posts like $18/hour per person, typically have a 3-person, 3-hour minimum, plus expenses and tip which probably adds up to~$500 minimum. Having said that, the ones I've used have done a pretty good job, comparable to the likes of Moishe's.

Best way I've found for short moves is to have a moving in party/bbq. Hire a truck from U-Haul for the day (under $100 all-in), and provide food, drinks for the folks helping out.

Can anyone recommend a man with a van type of situation? I'm moving next week from a first floor walk-up to a third-floor walk up and my move is literally two blocks away. I think it's silly for me to hire actual movers so was wondering if anyone knew of a "man with a van" type of thing? (Yes I know I should just ask friends to move - I have one. I just really need another strong arm or two.)
