City Hall in Jersey City stacked with Fulop allies, campaign vets and donors
By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal July 02, 2014 at 8:53 AM Visitors to Jersey City City Hall may be forgiven for thinking they've walked into Mayor Steve Fulop's campaign headquarters. Muhammed Akil, who worked to elect Fulop ally Ward F City Councilwoman Diane Coleman, is Fulop's chief of staff, making $120,544 as one of the most powerful people in City Hall. David Donnelly, who backed out of running as Fulop's Ward B council candidate but remained a supporter, earns $93,600 as a senior mayoral adviser. Doug Carlucci, another Coleman campaign vet, makes $60,000 as a Fulop aide, as does Domenick Bauer, a volunteer coordinator with Fulop's mayoral campaign. And those are just the folks working at Fulop's side. Since he first made waves as a politician in 2004, Fulop, 37, has railed against patronage hires. During his two terms on the City Council, he regularly attacked then-Mayor Jerramiah Healy, whom he unseated last May, for spending taxpayer dollars on salaries for political allies.
